ever have to call poison control?

Oi vey. The little guy I watch is on amoxicillion for an ear infections. It came in 2 75ml bottles. This morning while I was in the shower and DH was doing dishes and making breakfast DD3 managed to open the safety cap and drink one of the bottles. We didn't even have extra kids yet! Thankfully it should all be ok. Just have to watch her for 6 hours, especially her urine. We had it in the same compartment as DHs insulin. Never imagined she would go after it since she hasn't ever gone after daddys meds. Thankfully there is a second full bottle and the baby had already gotten 4 doses out of that and there is extra. Unbelievable. I can't be everywhere all the time. This is why my kids are not allowed in the kitchen during the day and the gate is kept locked. BUT daddy was in there with them. How?????

Have you ever had to call poison control?

No.  I usually always call the doctor first if I had a question.  But I guess it happened after they left for the day--and in that case I would have.

I would also make sure she doesn't start developing hives from an allergic reaction.  With as much as she drank, that could be dangerous if she did.

No but my dad did on me one time.

My parents bought an old dairy barn when I was young. He and I were out there one day, he was working and I was be beeping around and I found this big bright pink pills. I remember looking at the pills, I remember showing them to my dad, and I remember refusing to tell him if I had taken the pills or not. But for the life of me, I have no memory of taking the pills or not.

Anyway, they contacted poison control but ended learning, probably from the neighbors who use to own the property, that they were pills for diarrhea in baby calves and that they were really old.

Yes, several times. Most recently (not quite 2 years ago) I found the kids playing with some green Excedrin gel caps.  I counted them, but some were missing.  I ended up finding them later, after I'd called.

I haven't ever needed to. Medicines are kept out of reach of little hands.

When I was little my mom came into the living room once to find me sitting on the floor with her overturned purse and aspirin spread around me like confetti. There was a hectic drive to the er and a stomach pumping that I thankfully have no recollection of.

With the boys, we have had a couple of issues where meds were dropped around my children. When DD was about eighteen months old, they boys had returned from a trip and the med box was dropped, spilling out a bottle of something. They were picked up but the next day later, I found one or two that had been overlooked.

DS is an expert at finding some things on the floor and he brings them to me. He has found, twice now, pills on the floor. Tylenol one time and an ADD medication another time. I commended DS on finding the pills and I reamed the kid on his ADD medication.

About 12 years ago, we had the kids for the summer. They had put the preparation H in the drawer with the toothpaste. I had to be at work at 3 in the morning and I grabbed the preparation H instead of the toothpaste and brushed my teeth with it!!!!ROTF.gif

E had me called the poison control center and when they finally quit laughing they told me that I would be fine!!!

absolutely! Most are in the bathroom closet on a high shelf with a hook and eye latch on the door. DHs are in the cabinet over the fridge in a black box. However, we do not have a lock on the fridge :( They are kept in a compartment that keeps them out of sight. Out of sight out of mind. An allergy isn't a real concern according to poison control because she has had it before for ear infections.

On the plus side, poison control was super nice and friendly. THey are even sending out some Mr. Yuck stickers adn magnets. When they get there I am going to go through with the kids (again) and sticker poison stuff. They enjoyed doing that when I got some at the fair last year.
