Do your kids have any books memorized?

I made M sit down and read Hop on Pop today.  Then she picked out One Hungry Monster and "read" the entire thing. She can barely make out the Hop on Pop words, but she has all the long words in One Hungry Monster memorized.

Yes, being dyslexic that is how DD passed as a "reader" through most of kindergarten and first grade. She'd sit down and work out all the words, memorize the passages then read them to her teacher. But sit down to do a "cold read"? She couldn't do it.

No, but I sure did.  When ds was very small (not really speaking in sentences yet) I always read to him after he woke up from his nap and before bedtime.  So one day after nap time he wanted me to read "Curious George Makes Pancakes" 17 times in a row.  Literally.  And I did!  I read that book to him 17 times, I read it nonstop for over 2 hours!  Finally after the 17th time, I said, "Sorry, I just can't do it anymore!" I think he wanted to see how many times I'd read it for him!

I was saying that one in my sleep for a long long time!
