Yay....Job interview

So excited that I have a job interview on Tuesday Morning...now that DS is going into grade one I have been looking for something part time that would work. This job is part time Mon - Fri 10 - 3 and the add said it's perfect for parents trying to work around their kids school hours smile.gif

The only thing I am nervous about is I am going to need a month off in January to attend my FIL wedding in Africa. I don't expect to be paid while gone and would be asking for a leave of absence

The hours are perfect and I am so qualified for the job.

I think I should tell them in the interview and so does DH that I need time off....others are telling me to only tell them if I get the job which I think is unfair.

What do you guys think??

I would warn them. If there is going to be a problem about the time off, you'll want to know now.

I think I would tell them too.

My friend's dd was pregnant when she applied for a long-term subbing job.  She was replacing a teacher who was leaving on maternity leave.  She knew that they would also have to replace her a few months in, but she wanted the job and didn't tell them she was pregnant (I know they aren't supposed to discriminate and she had every right not to tell).   I thought it was so unfair to the kids to have to adjust to so many different teachers.

That being said, I think it is always good if you are taking an extended leave to let them know.  If it were just a vacation or even two weeks, I would have said not to bother.

I think you should tell them.  In a prior job, I used to do a lot of hiring and supervising of new hires.  I liked people that had the foresight to tell me about something like that. In my opinion, it sends a message that you are honest and that you understand the importance of getting the work done and showing up everyday.  If I hired someone, and then they brought it up, it would make me wonder if they really understood the importance of good attendance or if they had honesty issues.

Had the interview yesterday morning and I think it went well. I was honest and told them that I would need a leave of absence to attend my FIL wedding and the woman didn't bat an eye, she actually seemed excited for me.

The job sounds perfect for me casual dress code (jeans YAY), pd sick time, benefits, rrsp contribution and vacation...but best of all hours that work around my boys school 10 -3 Monday - Friday.

She said she calls all the applicants either way so now I guess it's just a waiting game.

Wow!  That's great and so unusual today.  Good luck!  Hope you get an offer.

I also would tell them up front. I used to have to hire (and fire) people. I always appreciated the info and still hired them 9 out of 10 times. Their  honesty always made me feel like they weren't going to be the type to jerk me around.
