Did you cry the first day of school?

I cried and cried the first day when DD went to Kindergarten.  :(  Thankfully, she did not see me crying and she did not cry.  She was so excited.

I really miss her even now - it's been more than a week since she started school.  She leaves around 7.15 and gets back only around 3.

How are you dealing with it?

I never cried when they went off to kindergarten, but now that we just moved my last one into college, I'm pretty emotional.  I didn't think it would affect me as it has.  Although, she was never really around much because of work and socializing, we still found time to sit with each other even for a few minutes.  So I'm probably feeling what you are feeling with sending yours off to kindergarten--and yes, I cried after we left.

I get sad. DD is going into third grade and I still miss her when she is gone during the day. I focus on she is happy, though when she was having issues last year, that was really hard. I do volunteer a lot with her class though next year, when DS starts kindergarten, I probably will cut back in her class and volunteer more in his class. She will be in 4th grade and probably not need me as much. Sniff, sniff.

I don't know, I never have gotten sad at all. I am thinking that maybe when my last one leaves the nest, I might be sad. Right now, I can't really wait, though. I have had little ones so long I can't imagine what it will be like without them at home. (my oldest is 26, youngest is 9)

That's my plan - waiting for the 2nd one to start school in Sept, so I can go volunteer.. I just now signed up to be the room parent in DD1's class.

i never cried with either one going off to school for the first time. mine were positive and happy...

all the kids whose mothers were crying like mad were very clingy and cried all the time the first few weeks.

I cried when DS7 first went to daycare. However, I made sure it wasn't in front of him. Now that he's in 2nd grade I miss him during the day and DS4 who started pre-K. I almost lost it in front of him yesterday, but I was good. He was super excited and I couldn't take that from him. Plus he's still at his daycare just on a pre-K program. It will hit me for sure next year when he joins his older brother at the elementary school. frown.gif

Yes. I have choked up after dropping them off. They love school and are happy so I find comfort in that.

Volunteering is great. You get to still be part of their day.

I was a little sad when my oldest started preschool. Now that my youngest is starting kindergarten I am excited for her. It is a easier on me though because their school is exactly 3 houses away from our house.
