Is there some sort of tattoo etiquette?

I wondered if I was being rude when I asked a lady about her tattoo today.  She had three dates in roman numerals. I'm not a roman numeral expert, but the first two looked like it was birthdays for the two kids she was with.  I couldn't figure out the third one, mostly because it was in the future.  I finally asked her and she said she had a baby at home that was almost one.  I'm not sure if she meant to have the date of her child's first birthday tattooed or not, because I'm pretty sure it said 2012.  (I did NOT tell her that.)

When I see people with ink I like, I tell them so, and ask where they had it done. If it's someplace local, I ask if they would recommend them.

I would not tell someone that their tattoo was misspelled or that the Roman numerals were wrong. And if it's someplace local whose employees can't spell, I know to avoid it.

I am sure that people with tatoo's are use to people staring or asking questions about them.

Heck if I see a weird or unusuall tatoo, I ask questions.

And if I know the person sometimes I will ask "what in the hell was you thinking"!!!LOL

(Whoops, can I use that word here, or should I say heck?)ROTF.gif

No diploma for Ruthie.

If I like a tattoo, I will make mention, if I saw an error, i wouldn't mention it to them but you know I would be texting my DH before I was out the door. Lol.

I rarely ask about other people's tattoos, they are so common I would never do anything but ask. LOL! I have my own artist and really don't have much interest in theirs. I have seen a few I like but I usually just say nice art and leave it at that.

I worked with a guy who had the roman numeral 13 tatted everywhere! His hand, earlobes, arm. Finally after 18 mo he finally broke down and told me the significance. It let others who were interested know that they could go to him for meth. I knew the guy dealt but we got along great anyway. I was shocked though.

I wouldn't point out that they had a misspelling or a wrong number either.  However, if I were curious about a tatoo, I would ask. I would think people would be happy to talk about their tatoos.  My niece has several and I know she is always thrilled when I ask her about them.

She was happy to tell me about them.  I kept thinking I must be reading it wrong, but I don't think I was. I'm glad I didn't say anything about it.
