Who was right? Me or the Cashier?

Meijer recently changed their coupon acceptance policy.  On their website it states:

  • Meijer will accept coupons from major competitors in each store's trading area, for Grocery and or for Health and Beauty Care items

I understood this to mean that Meijer would accept "store" coupons from their competitors, namely, Target and Kroger store coupons.  Even a Meijer Sales/Coupon match up site said this was okay.  However, the cashier would not allow it.

Before I go back with a copy of the policy and my receipt and coupons, do you understand this as I do?   If not, could you explain what the above means?

I agree with you. Is your Target a super target? They could possibly get you on a technicality if it's not, "they're not a grocery store, so are not a competitor".

Super Target!  I'm going to just go back with a copy of their coupon policy and ask to talk to a manager.  Then I'm going to ask the manager to his employees know of the new policy.

I read it exactly the way you do. If it isn't a Target store coupon what is kind of coupon is it? It wouldn't be a manufacturers coupon.

It looks to me also like it says they accept store coupons for other stores. However, as previously mentioned, some stores exclude Walmart and Target as competitors.

I went back customer service at Meijer today.  I asked the person at the desk if they accepted the store coupons from other stores and she immediately said yes.  I further asked if they accepted Target store coupons and again she said yes.  I told her how a cashier was adamant about this and wouldn't allow me to use my Target coupons.  She told me to ask them to call a manager over next time.  I wasn't willing to go that far when I originally made the purchase, because I didn't have a copy of the coupon policy with me.  I have since printed it out and will keep it in my coupon holder.  I got $4 refunded to me for my effort!
