Have you ever had problems with your phone number and who had it previously?

My DD11s first number was previously assigned to some woman who owed a lot of money (collection calls) and who was still putting down the number on things like when she signed up to work charity events, stuff from the university etc. There were several such calls a week to DDs phone. Since she didn't have the phone except for when she was left home alone they all went to voicemal where they got deleted. 

 

DH had a number that to this day is still out there on some Century 21 real estate signs. DH would get a couple of calls a week, sometimes a day. He even called Century 21 to let them know that they would have a hard time selling the properties with his number on them. Still they came.

 

When we switched services we changed both of their numbers. 

No I just had a problem with all of J's (ex) women who would call looking for him after he left!!!

YES! And apparently Shirley Brown owed everybody and their mother money! I had to change MY number b/c the collection calls wouldn't stop and I was even accused of being Shirley and just saying I wasn't

We just had to add another line to our business phone and apparently the company before us that had it went out of business owing the world money.  Every day there is a message about a bill in collections - I've been calling them back and letting them know the company went out of business but yes, some of them don't believe me!!!

For years we got messages from a Dr's office for the guy who had our home phone before. (and this happened for years)

Yes, years ago when we first got our land line (1998) we got a ton of calls for a woman who also owed $$$ to many credit cards! grr, I even had some of her family members calling me and speaking a different language on my answering machine AND another lady that left a message (something about horse training???) and said for someone to call her back even if she had the wrong # (umm, no, it was long distance) The thing was the woman hadn't moved, and her new # was in the phone book!! I did end up putting our last name in our out going message so that maybe some people would get the hint. The calls stopped after about a year, and after several arguments with collection company's.
