Frustrated with my 3.5 year old....

Ok Wyatt has been doing so well with potty training. He hasn't had a pee accident in weeks. He would wait til he got his pull up on at naptime to poop usually. Then four days ago he started going #2 on the potty too.

Then yesterday....the little bugger.....went into his room and pooped on the floor. Aughhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! I admit i was upset and i made him help me clean it up and i said that i was disappointed that he pooped like that.

Then yesterday and today he's peed in his pants over five times. It's just alittle and then he realizes that he's wet and says he has to go potty....by then it's too late i have to wash another set of clothes.

Can boys get infections that cause them to pee like this. Is he just getting too busy or is he getting back at me for making him clean up the poop accident yesterday?

I have heard of regressing (think that's what it's called) but this is crazy at 3.5 years old.

do you have a reward sytem for when he does go to the potty?For some kids that can be a big help.I found my daughter constantly sitting on the potty...she would say she was "trying to get more stickers".

He is utterly normal.

Pee and poop accidents happen all the way to 5 - 7 years old and there is nothing to be concerned about.

Sometimes 5-yr old DD will have what we call 'a wet fart' and a little stain happens in her panties. I tell her, "It's okay. Even adults have that problem sometimes."

My son did the same thing when he potty trained. In his case, I think it was a little bit of both - sometimes he would start having an accident, catch himself, then finish up in the potty (or even have a total accident) - and I think it was just that - an accident. It did reach a point, though, where he pretty much totally regressed and I think that ultimately had more to do with him asserting control over the situation (in response to me venting my frustration on him when he did have an accident) than him not having the ability to stay dry. I had to step back from the situation (which included putting him back into diapers for about 24 hours), reassess my strategy, and let him decide if he was ready to be potty trained. From then on both he and I did much better. He still has the occasional accident even now, a year later (and we still have issues with pooping in the potty - but that's another story entirely), but I expect that will probably happen for the next few years.

I don't know it it's crazy or not, but when ds was 3.5 he was trained and at Four he regressed, big time. We had to start all over again. I'm not saying this is happening to you, but I think it is very common to regress. Ds was trained for four months when he started to regress. He didn't poop on the floor, but oh the times in his undies. Every day for months. It drove me crazy (we never used pullups) but you know what? The bigger deal I made of it the much worse it was.

I had a friend that her daughter, while training/regressing would urinate (FULL bladder) all over the bathroom floor. She didn't have any kind of infection, she did it for the (negative) attention. She grew out of it, but my friend was a wreck for a long time while her daughter was doing this!

Big hugs to you, I KNOW how hard this can be. Honestly it was one of the worst times of my life (and I've been through a lot!) It gets better!!!

My daughter did the same thing around 3 years old. I started the sticker chart back up and made a big deal when she made it to the potty. I tried to keep it positive instead of getting mad. It was very hard. Good luck

Thanks everyone. The peeing in the underware continued for about three more days. Then I started a reward system and do you know he has only had a couple pee accidents and he's gone poop on the potty many times.

Guess he just needed a little appreciation!!!

YEs - I would have to say that potty training made me believe in bribery! (Yes - I know I said I would never do that before I had my son - but oh well! )

My son has the pee thing down but we are working on pooping in the potty. He gets a "surprise" every time he goes in the potty. I just picked up a bunch of little cars, etc. (under a dollar) and those are his surprises. It has worked really well for us! Right now we are at 2 weeks with no accidents at school!!!! I thought I'd never see the day! He will be 4 in May and I'd love to be done by then.

My son Liam is almost 3.5 yrs old and he was pretty much trained on both pee and poop for weeks and weeks, NOW, suddenly for the last two months he has 100% regressed and refuses to poop on the toilet, will only go in his underware?? He use to tell me when he had to poop and now, nothing? He use to tell me when he had an accident in his pants and now, nothing? I am at my wits end? I have tried all the tricks, but he seems so unintereted?? Help!
