12 year old boy in girls locker room

Tonight at the YMCA my dd was changing after her swimming lessons. Inside the girls locker room was a boy sitting there watching girls shower--he was watching the older girls, not mine. One girl was showering with her suit on and another had hers off. I asked her to put it back on and when I pointed out the boy was watching she became embarrassed. I asked him how old he was and he said 12. His mom finished dressing her dd and came up to us. I told her I thought a 12 year old boy was capable of walking through the boys locker room and waiting in the hall. He was too old to be sitting there watching those girls shower. When she got mad I asked if he was a special needs child. She got angrier and said no. One of the other girls moms came up also and was mad when she found out he had been watching her daughter. I told her if she was so worried about him walking through the boys locker room then he should sit beside her and his sister and not watch preteens shower. Was I out of line or would you have said something? Boys at that age are thinking or starting to think about girls and sex and I didn't think that was appropriate.

That is waaaaaay too old to be in there!!! I would not want my 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade boys watching girls shower!!!! I would ask at the Pool office about that, it should NOT be allowed.

I dont have a prblem with mom being protective but yes he needs to be with them not starting at young gilrs!! I would be livid if I caught a boy watching my daughter!!
(personally I think he should go through the mens lockerroom and meet right outside the door (I would have him go right to the girls door and I would make sure he made it and then go from there ) but I cna understand the part of her having him with her but I thinkits wrong she didn make him stay with her!!

:furious: :furious: I would have come UNGLUED on her, period! I would report her to the YMCA and possibly to the local authorities. That's very very wrong, and can be traumatic to the girls he was watching (especially the nude one)!!!!:furious: :furious:

That's priceless! OMG you absolutely positively did the right thing, good for you!

The cut-off age at swimming pools here is eight, boys or girls.

You need to tell the Y and have them institute a policy. At my Y, the opposite sex must be younger than age 6 to be in the locker room. That mom was completely out of line to get upset too. Her son should not have been in there.

Exactly what I was going to say. That was completely unacceptable and I would be on the phone pronto to get this taken care of!!

I agree that mom was totally out of line. Cutoff for boys in the ladies room is 6. I would be calling the Y too. No way is that ok and I would raise a big stink if it happens again. I just don't understand how that mom thought that was ok. Do you think maybe she was emberassed to be caught doing that. THats the only thing I can think of she cant in any way think that it was ok.

OMG! I can't believe she even thought it was okay to take a 12 year old into the girls locker room. She obviously has some issues. That is NOT okay. As a mother of a son and a daughter, I am apalled. Isn't there an age cut off. Where my ds takes swimming lessons it is 5. I am not sure what I will do when he turns 6, but I certainly won't take him into the girls locker room since the rule is 5. I am not sure, but from the post, it sounds like he was just there. If she is that worreid about him waiting outside, don't bring him with.
