The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,†said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Hmmmm......wonder if this is factual or distorted by someone. If it's factual, then it is the heighth of hypocrisy to preach to others what you're not doing yourself. Have to check it out and see if it's true.

I would not believe everything I read. I think it would have to be confirmed before I would believe it. People are looking for dirt on politicians.

Ooops....just did an internet search and it's all over the internet. His spokesperson isn't denying the dollar amount of his bill or the kilowatt usage either. She had other things she said about how he was going to install solar panels in the future...yada, yada, yada...but it appears that the facts quoted in the above article are correct. She didn't dispute any of those. Waiting for someone to say it's a lie and a "vast right wing conspiracy".

So are we really saying that all millionairs should live in huts? We are really reaching on this one ladies. I wonder what King George is using and guess what...you are paying for that!

I didn't expect this kind of response from you You can't have it both ways.

oh please! I would be more worried about the war in iraq and the death of innocent soldiers and civilians in Iraq all for Bush's warped ideaology.

The difference between what the President is using and Gore is that Gore claims to be "green". That is the definition of hypocrisy.

No, millionaires should not live in huts, but do you really think the Gore family was even THERE most of that time that the utilities were used? That would be interesting to see - how many days was he and his family in residence in 2006.

You've known me long enough to know that I hate political garbage and this is exactly what this is. Of course, common sense will tell anyone that a large mansion will use more electricity that a normal house. There are plenty of millionairs out there right now, but did they pick their house to do this, no. This was only done to try to throw mud at Al Gore because he is standing up and talking about global warming and because he is a Democrat. When we have some honest comparisons to the same size Republican mansions, then the "report" might be worth something other than bathroom tissue.
