CARTWHEEL by Target - A new way to save

Cartwheel by Target is still in beta.  At first glance it appears to be a cross between Shopkick (for saving) and Foursquare (badge-earning), but run exclusively by Target.

It looks like you have to give it Facebook permissions to join.  Not sure how I feel about that.  I gave them permission, but I set it to "only me" so the notifications wouldn't appear on my wall and to my friends.

I've done that before - allow something to post on Facebook, then set it so only I will see it.

Thanks for sharing. I'll check it out. I'd love to see if anyone else tries this at Target. Shopping at Target is starting to be a lot of work!

Dang...yet another reason for me to upgrade to a smartphone!

So, has anyone redeemed a Cartwheel offer?  Do I have to just open the cartwheel page in my browser on my phone?  There's no app or anything, right?

FYI, there IS now a Cartwheel app.  You have to sign in with your Facebook account to use it.  Alternatively, you can pull up the Cartwheel site in your mobile browser, or even print off the barcode from home.

I've used Cartwheel a couple times now. It's "one more thing" you have to do to save money at Target, but I have found some great offers on there for things I am already buying, like baby food and up & up brands.

So far, what are your thoughts on Cartwheel?  Have you redeemed offers with them?

I don't know if I like how all your Facebook friends can see your activity.  Is there a way to turn that off?  I know it's meant to be a social app, but I am really not into couponing for the social aspect of it, KWIM?

Also, I have not tried using Cartwheel in addition to other offers and coupons.  Are Cartwheel coupons stackable?

Even though I am annoyed at the complicated deals at Target these days, I actually like Cartwheel.  The deals are a % savings on particular items. You CAN stack with Target coupons AND manufacturer coupons AND of course the gift card deals.  Not only that, the savings % comes off BEFORE manufacturer coupons. The cartwheel % will be shown under each item on the receipt.

Here's an example I did today. The Huggies wipes were $1.97 regular price.  The "Coupon $.50" is the Target coupon which came off first.  Then at the bottom, you can see the 5% cartwheel offer came off,  making the price $1.39.  Then the $.50 manufacturer coupon came off last. (Final price: $.88 yay!)

I have actually seen cartwheel come off both before Target coupons on a different receipt, so I'm not sure on that.  But it's always come off before manufacturer coupons.

As far as the Facebook part, I don't really care if people see what I redeemed, but I will say that I redeemed a bra offer and it said when I added the offer to my list that it would be added privately. So it didn't say that I added it, or that I redeemed it.

Here's a new tip for using the Target Cartwheel app.

You may know that you can use the same offer multiple times. I believe it's 6 times per offer per day. So if you have a 25% Circo clothing item offer and buy 4 items, each will be 25% off.

Also, most clothing offers say they are not valid on clearance items, but I've repeatedly had clearance items ring up with the discount. A great way to save even more on clearance finds.

bumping for @sakura and @5vsinnc

I find Target Cartwheel very simple to use.  It's one of my favorite money-saving apps.

  • Create an account.
  • Select your offers. You can browse by category, or search for an item or brand.
  • Click on My Cartwheel in the app to pull up a barcode for the cashier to scan.

The Cartwheel % will come off BEFORE manufacturer coupons and can be combined with all deals, sales, gift card deals, coupons etc.
