Do you buy nitrate-free meat?

Do you buy nitrate-free or uncured lunch meat, ham, bacon, hot dogs etc?

I've been buying it at Trader Joe's but my Kroger store just started carrying some in their Simple Truth brand. They had lunch meat and bacon by the lunch meat/hot dogs section. I didn't see ham steaks, but it might have been by the meat.

They also had Applegate uncured hot dogs in the same area. The price was comparable to TJ's. I'm glad I found this because M has been eating ham in her lunch every day and TJ's is far for me.

I'll buy Oscar Mayer Naturals when I can afford it.

I need to make more of an effort. I do pretty well remembering when I buy hotdogs but not lunch meat. We eat more lunch meat than hotdogs.

Yes. I have been doing that since I was pregnant, 11 years ago. Nitrates make me ill and I know they were bad for the baby. I get bloated and have indegestion if I eat anything with nitrates. I buy the Natures Promise brand at Martins.

To be honest, I've never checked into this before - but it's something that I've recently been interested in. As I'm getting older, I'm starting to wonder about what I eat and how it affects me. Nitrates in meat is something that I've wondered about. Like I said, I haven't bought nitrate-free meat before, but I think I'm going to start making an attempt to do it.

I never thought about it until recently, hubby read about it and commented to me. He's never made much mention about what we eat, so I thought I'd better pay attention. Took me a while to find it and we missed ham in the mean time.

I used to buy Healthy Choice by Hormel for a long time.  Now, I buy Boars Head for the kids  - they said they are with no nitrates/nitrites ( chicken, turkey etc)

I generally avoid hot dogs and pre-packaged deli meats
