HELP....Cleaning Vomit off a Mattress??

I'm wondering if any of you bright ladies have and ideas as to how to clean vomit out of a mattress. The 4 year old I watch was up all night throwing up, all over her bed. Her parents had to throw away the sheets and comforter, because it was soaked. It apparently went straight through and into the matress. :hurl: Anyway, and brilliant ideas that work well, for getting this out! Thanks for and and all help!! Oh, and she's home today, not with me!

First you have to clean up the wet stuff. Then what I do is use a spray cleaner (even a counter cleaner) to get the stain out as best you can. Then lysol like crazy because that will help get rid of the smell. Sprinkle baking soda on the mattress and let it sit. Then vacuum it off. This is what I've done when my kids have puked on the bed. It's always worked but if you can't get the odor out, the sun is a natural deodorizer.

Also, you might want to buy a waterproof pad. We didn't buy one with our 1st daughter but did with our 2nd. When the 2nd vomits, I literally can wipe it off the pad and throw it in the washer. So nice!!

Someone suggested sunshine on the urine question. I am really sensitive to odors and feel you can never get urine or vomit out of it because of the stuffing inside. I have plastic covers on all of our beds and will keep putting them on until the kids reach 10! I also use mattress pads.

Hydrogen peroxide - spray it on the stain - saturate it, and let it bubble til it stops. Blot as much as you can with a towel, and repeat as many times as necessary.

I would try seltzer water. I would get all the vomit off which I am sure you already did then pour a bit a seltzer on it and let it fizz then gently blot it. Repeat if necessary. Good luck.

This thread is over 3 years old. If they haven't been able to remove the vomit by now, I suggest they buy a new mattress.

Funny! I think this thread must be indexed hightly in search engines and probably comes up when people to a search on how to clean vomit off a mattress. Even though the original poster has long forgot about the throw-up incident, other people are still benefiting from our great mattress-cleaning advice!
