bringing your own supplies

Has anyone brought some of their own supplies to the hospital to help cut some of your costs? Like pads, Motrin, Vitamins or anything else? I am just curious.

No but I never had to pay anything but my co-pay at the beginning of the dr. visit everything was included and paid by my insurance.

Nope I am a lucky one our insurance pays for everything OB related with no copays at all I might bring my own pads though...I swear when I gave birth to my daughter they gave me some incontinence underpants (adult diapers) with a pad the size of a baby diaper Boy was that uncomfortable.

I have never thought of this, but I do know that my hospital won't let you take any meds that you bring in. The nurses ask if you brought anything and they will take it away.

Insurance usually covers most of it anyway and it is so much easier to just use theirs. I just make sure I take everything home with me.

Insurance should cover everything - minus any copays, deductibles, etc., and you should get some to take home. I did bring Tylenol w/me, and while the nurse looked the other way (mine was stronger than what they gave me), she said they are supposed to take it away as contraband, as she put it.

They have to record everything you use and take in case there are any problems or reactions - are you using too many pads? You could be bleeding too much, etc.

I just remember paying 25.00 for a bottle of Motrin. I was so shocked. A friend of mine said that I could bring my own as long as it was unopened. The pads were something else she said. Insurance doesn't pay for everything. I still paid out of pocket for quite a lot of things. Also I remember I had to take a prenatal the night I was induced. I brought my own, but was told no. I was charged 10.00 for that pill. I was extremely upset after going through my entire hospital bill. I just felt like they were out to milk (no pun intended) me for money.
