"Welcome! America is a wonderful place. Only in the USA can we celebrate the glory of egg salad, dictionaries, and procrastination.
Here we celebrate these lesser known holidays. You won't find boring holidays like Thanksgiving and Mother's Day in here!"

Bizarre American Holidays Home Page

Above is listed a link to a great site and idea we thought might just be too fun for everyone to miss out on !!!

So for kicks we've decided to start a new weekly thread based on their holiday ideas,so be sure to check out their site.

Be sure to check every Monday for the updated weekly holiday list and be on the lookout for great recipe ideas for that week and months holidays.

This weeks holidays are:
National Macaroon Day--May 31
National Rocky Road Day--June 2
Donut Day--1st Weekend in June

The ~entire month~ of JUNE has been declared:

National Iced Tea Month
Turkey Lover's Month
National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month
National Papaya Month
National Dairy Month

This could be a great way to get cooking with your kids and add little humor to planning those weekly menus...

Give mommy2mercedes a pat on the back. She is looking up all this information for us

Thanks Trudy!!!

Thank you thank you thank you

What a funny way to come up with some menu ideas and nothing like a silly little holiday to get some creative ideas on things to make with your kids.

and for the mommy saver who was looking for ways to use up her waxed/parchment paper here's a recipe you really wanna use it with......

coconut macaroons:

2/3 c flour
1 14oz pkg flaked coconut
1/4 tsp salt
1 (14oz)sweetened condensed milk
2 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 and line cookie sheets with parchment paper(or foil)

Stir together the flour, coconut and salt.

Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla(using your hands is best-til well blended)

Use an ice cream scoop to drop dough(golf ball size) onto the prepared cookie sheets. (let the kids scoop it )

Bake 12 to 15 minutes til coconut is toasted.

2 c semisweet chocolate chips
1 c peanut butter (creamy or chunky-both are great)
4 c mini marshmallows
graham crackers (opt)

Grease a 9 x 9 inch pan. (or line bottom w/gr crackers)

Heat chocolate chips and peanut butter over low til chips are completely melted.

Remove from heat.Let sit about 3 min then stir in marshmallows.

Pour into pan.

Then keep in fridge.Yummy reminds you of a smore....but keep it in the fridge cause it'll get a little gooey if left out.

In light of dairy month...since kids love milk, and typically also CHOCOLATE milk here's a fun way to be the cool mom on the block and make your own variations....

2 c sugar
1 c water
1 packet kool aid

Over medium high heat, mix sugar and water. Cook, stirring, until mixture comes to a boil.

Boil for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Remove from heat and allow to cool. Stir in drink mix powder.

*************
Stir in to milk for your own custom flavor....we like raspberry!!!!!
