Do you have a living room or a family room or both? What's in them? How are they decorated?

Since I asked, I'll go first.

We have a living room & a family room. Our living room is more for when people come to visit. We have a couch & several chairs as well as a fireplace. No TV. It is done in earthy colors with sand paint on 2 of the walls. I do not recommend the sand paint unless you are using it on an accent wall; it's a bear to work with.

Our family room consist 'beater' furniture since it's where the kids like to hang out & do their thing. It is also where we have our big tv and stereo. It too is done in greens, creams, taupes & burgendy. I also have 2 large bookcases filled with photos and several collages on the walls. It's much more 'homier' down here in the family room.

We have a dinning room/ family room combination. We could have an eat in kitchen but i prefer to have a large dinning table so we don't use the whole room for a family room. Plus it's nice to have the big table for playing games/puzzles on. Anyway... It's a nice soft sage green, it has hard wood floors and antique furniture. We have the tv in this room and we all play our gamecube as a family. We have bookcases lining the wall where the dinning room table is with all of our games stored underneath. We are planning in the short term to refinish the hard wood, build built in shelves along the wall where the dining room table is and repaint the house to a nice neutral tanish color and get more "family" oriented furniture. duraplush sofa's. I LOVE my anitques but they just aren't that comfortable for lounging. So we will have a whole new look in our family room soon, either way I still like both looks.

Don't forget to take your before & after pictures. I want to see them!

We have just finished completely remodeling our family room. We also have a formal living and a gameroom. I will post before & after pics as soon as I get them downloaded. We wanted to wait til our kids got older til we got new furniture. My husband got a 52" plasma TV which basically started the remodel. We put in hardwood floors and bought new leather furniture. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I am by no means a decorator. I just like to find a pic of something I like and duplicate it.

I have a formal living room that is painted soft yellow with white wainscoting, crown moulding, mantel, and trim. I use red accents in there, too. We have all our family gatherings, holidays, celebrations, etc. in there.

My family room is paneled in original pecan paneling with built in shelves on either side of a brick fireplace. I have plaid furniture (navy, hunter, and burgundy) with a cherry entertainment unit...not Queen Ann's type cherry with a shiny finish, but a more natural cherry. That is our daily gathering place and where we spend most of our time as a family. The kitchen has a double wide opening that goes into the family room, so I can see everything going on from either room into the other room. Very handy with the kids.

We have a living room/play room type arrangement. Our living room is huge and long. I broke up the rooms by putting two couches back to back in the middle. One end has our tv in an armiour, another one for movies and stuff, floral comfy funiture, my desk (L-shaped cherry w/ hutch), lots of seating, old trunks. Dh says it looks like a furiture store. I love lots of little areas to sit around and talk in (to whom, I don't know).

The other end is the boys playroom. I have two oak bookcases, one for books, one for toys. There is an antique trunk for toys and desk. If it stopped there the room would be adorable! But no, my son (and dh) have stacks of amplifyers, guitars and a frickin' drum set in the middle of it! I had a fit today and told them both I want my house back. The drumset is going back out to dh's studio tomorrow!

The room sounds gorgeous! My fireplace is dead center in both rooms, so I can't really divide the rooms up like that, but I love the idea.

By the way, you crack me up with your mini-fit!

Oh Jeanette, your living room is beautiful!!!!!!! I've always wanted a fireplace. As close as I'm going to get is our little propane one I put in the dining room last year.
