My fourth child is starting pre-k in the fall, it has been hard to be a SAHM for so long (10 years now), but I wouldn't have trading these years for anything!!!!!!

I agree. I went through a divorce and had to get a job to pay for the attorney. When the company i was working for closed in April of this year, I decided to take this summer off to spend with my girls. I don't have any debt, and the bills are paid, but I am not saving any money. Kids are only little for a little while and I feel it's important to spend time with them as much as possible. My youngest Is starting Kindergarten in the fall and I will be working for the schools part-time so I can work the same hours and days they are gone.

If I couldn't pay my bills, this might be different, but having debt wouldn't change my mind. I feel I am doing the best thing possible for my girls right now.

DH and I were just talking about this at lunch.  I'd like to find a part time job now that our kids are getting older.  However, he is the one who would like me to continue staying home.  There are several reasons.  First, I do all the child care, carpooling, laundry, grocery shopping and house care.  DH works very long hours and many, many weekends.  If I worked, then the tiny bit of free time he'd have would go towards helping around the house.  The other big reason is that there are so many things that can happen to teenage girls when a parent isn't around to watch over them.  For us, my staying home right now is still the right choice.  Luckily we don't have to go into debt to do that but I am hoping that my tiny home based business will eventually turn a little profit to help out with our budget.
