OK a few questions. My first little girl is going off to school this year... I am sad, but excited! DH and I have been talking about school lunches- prices- packing your own and school options.

How much does your school charge for school lunches? (If you pack them for your kids, I'd still like to know how much your schools charge)

How many of you pack school lunches for your kids on a daily basis? Do you do it EVERY day, a few times a week or not at all?

If do you pack lunches, do actually save $$?

I have great ideas for school lunches and i am not worried about fixing them on a daily or a few times a week basis, I am just wondering what all of you do. Our school lunches here are $1.70. I am wondering if that is normal or what? Our kids get to choose from three different choices each day. In Kinder. they send home a list each month of what the choices are and the parent & child chooses what they will be eating for that month. I like the idea- Just wondering what your schools are like?

Ours is $1.60 a day for lunch, but I always pack it. The list they send is accurate about 50% of the time and my son is a picky eater anyways. I just feel better packing a lunch.

I need more options on the poll. Mine is different for each child! My dd will be in 9th grade and she always eats school lunch. My 4th and 2nd graders usually pack a lunch but pick out things they like and eat school lunch occasionally. My 3rd grader always packs his lunch. School lunch is $1.60. My kids always buy milk at school, though. I never pack a drink.

We have a new school this year...so we'll have to see how hot lunch goes! At our old school, lunch was $1.80 (included milk) and my kids got it every day. If there is one thing I DO not like to do...it is make lunches! So it was worth it, for me! L.OL!

At our new school, I believe that they get a card that is loaded with money and can buy a la carte menu items. We'll see how this works out. My kids eat a wide variety of foods, so I'm not worried at all about them making good choices.

Our elementary lunches are $2.10. We allow each child to pick 5 lunches per month. so that ends up being $21.00 per month. We will be cutting that down to 4 per month this year. If we have a very busy week we will let kids have extra lunches. When mom is sick getting a lunch ready is too much extra work. I usually make them the night b4, but u can't always do that. I go through the schedule with each child a write the first letter of their name on the day they have school lunch.

I prefer to make lunches b/c it's cheaper and healthier. Even when I do somewthing out of a can it's usually healthier than school lunch.

Depending on what they are having my dd usually eats at school. On the poll I put that I pack her a lunch 3-4 times a week; sometimes it's not that often. She can be picky & I want to make sure she gets enough to eat. However sometimes she doesn't eat what I pack in her lunch-she likes lunchables but will only eat the crackers & a little of the meat, so I quit buying them for her. I think our lunch is $1.60.

OMG Kelly what school district are you, that is way cheap!!

Oregano, Our schools are trying to do the a la carte thing starting middle school but parents can block certain foods or put how many times a child can choose say ice cream.

The cost of our lunch is $1.70. My girls buy one or two days a week. They have 5 or 6 choices.By the end of last year it was 5 but I think this year it is increasing to 7. The have 2 or 3 options that change everyday then they have pizza, chicken strips or nuggets, pbj and I can't remember what else. That they can choose from. I like that they have so many choices but I do like to pack their lunches as I think sometimes I can pack more and a better lunch. I have a good friend that works for the food people and have had many complaints about what my kids get for that $1.70!
