Mayan Calender ends on 2012

According to the Bible no man knows the date of Jesus's return. Matthew 24:36 "However, no
one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. My question is what is the speculation on the Mayan calender? The Mayan's believed that something big was to happen on December 21, 2012. A time where great change is to take place. Now the Mayan's did not exactly believe in the Christian God. So, how can they know something that we do not know or even Christ himself does not know? I would like to know what others think about this and if you have seen the movie that Mel Gibson made. Thanks for your input.

I watched a show on the History channel about this and it totally freaked me out!!!! I was very worried about this. However i have had to start realizing that God is in control. Whatever is ment to happen will and i really think that this will turn out to be another Y2K thing. We will all worry and worry and then it will come and pass with nothing happening.

Just wanted to comment that the Mayan calendar is the most accurate for the time is was made. It is still very accurate for our time. They wwere vry scientific in their making of the calendar. The religious ascept of it I can't comment on.

I agree. Only God knows. He says there will be many false prophets. I feel bad for even freaking out about it. It is our human nature though I think to myself why would people who didn't worship our God, know of his plans?

They were very advanced for their time. They knew what they were doing scientifically but their religion worshiped many Gods, so I do not see how they could know what the Christian God was up too.

My mom always would tell me about that story growing up. I hope things aren't over that soon, but who even knows if that means the end. I know it is in the back of my mind but I try not to think about it or live any differently. Just go and enjoy all of your blessings that you have right now. I do think the Mayans knew alot but how much they knew is anybodies guess.

I remember learning about that in 6th grade or something like that, and I've remembered it ever since (though I thought, for some reason, that it was August of 2012, not December. Whatever.)! Yes, scientifically I guess they were pretty advanced, so maybe they actually did find a comet or something that will swing around this way in 2012, or some other astronomical event. I'm not worried about it since I do believe in the sovereignty of God and His control over all things. I'm more interested in seeing if anything does actually happen that year. Well, surely there will be some major catastrophe where lives are lost, because there is always something, like hurricanes and earthquakes and tsunamis. But I think it would be pretty crazy if an asteroid did end up striking the earth in the Mayan neck of the woods, and then later, in heaven, I would ask God how they had figured that out to make a prediction so many hundreds of years beforehand.

I am Not Disrespecting anyones Beliefs or anything -
I Was Raised to believe NO ONE knows when The end times will come - and You shouldn't ever Speculate it.
even Recently our pastor did a Sermon on this ( we are Lutherans)

However I always wonder - Who's God and way of teaching is really right?? I know thats probably a Dumb Question -
But if you Believe that the World will end in 2012 -
There are Many People who Have No Clue about that - and are sure their beliefs are 100% right.

I guess there is no Real answers -
But one thing that I never Got -
Maybe someone can Explain it to me -

When there was all that Hype about Bad things happening on On Y2K -

Whose Time zone was that in ?? I was at work with people Freaking out -
Yet We watched on TV other Parts of the world Bringing in the New Millennium unharmed.
