Cleaning Floors - How do you do it? - Page 3

When we put our laminate floors in last winter (pergo) the instructions said to use a vinegar water solution. I however haven't found anything other than using a spray bottle and papertowel that doesn't streak the floors! Being 5 mo. pregnant and having a bad leg (broke it pretty bad in an accident 6 yrs. ago) being on the floor for more than 5 minutes is just impossible. I've used 2 different kinds of pledge floor cleaner and a sponge mop plus vinegar. My biggest problem is finding something to clean my marble bathroom floor. One of my cats has decided its her litter box and will not use anything else. Any tips to clean the floor?

I use my Shark steaming mop.  I saturate the pad first, and add an itty-bitty bit of Murphy's Oil Soap.  It's great for in-between spot cleaning, but nothing works as well as getting down on your hands and knees to clean the floors.

No one has ever said anything to me about Murphy's being bad to use! Did they say why it's bad? Do you think it matters on an old floor? They do look kinda dull...is that what happens with the Murphy's?

With using the vinegar, how do you clean out your mop in between wipes? Do you rinse it in water?

My neighbor installs floors for a living. He said that because Murphy's is an oil-based soap, what you get when you clean with it is an oil/water mix. When the water evaporates, a thin film of oil remains that looks shiny at first, but quickly dulls. And every time you use it, it builds up.

I have the Rubbermaind version of the Swiffer Wet Jet with a washable, reusable head. I put 50-50 vinegar and water in the tank. When the floors look really dull, I use Weiman's floor polish and a damp microfiber mop.

For the ceramic tile floors, I just use the Swiffer and vinegar/water.

I use the Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub and I LOOOVE it. It vacuums, scrubs and dries the floors.  They always look fabulous and its easy cheesy to do. Just fill the tank with your cleaner then push the on button.  The dirty water gets sucked back up into the machine so it doesn't sit on your floor. Kinda how a carpet cleaner would work only this is made for hard floors...KWIM?  Your floors get so clean your feet tingle when you walk on them.

Looks like it takes a lot of accessory parts that have to be replaced - filter, wipes, special cleaner, etc. Does that get expensive, or do they tend to last a while?

Ive had mine for 3 years and I have never replaced the filter. I just wash it out from time to time. I use my own cleaner I don't buy theirs.  Not sure about any wipes?? I have all the attachments and have never used them once, you really don't need them if your only going to do floors with it.

Gotcha. In that case, it sounds like a pretty good deal. I might have to add that to my wish list.
