Forgot to pay credit card on time

So, this is the first time this has happened to me. I forgot to schedule the credit card payment on time. So now it is late and I realize this after the company has called me 6 times! Wow, and they didn't even leave a message. So, I am paying it today, but here is my question. Would you pay the 9.95 charge to make the payment effective today or would you let the payment be effective 3 days from now? This is something I have never done before and I am unaware of what finance charges I would incur in the three extra days. I think I will pay the 9.95, but was just curious if it would make a difference or not. Thanks!

i would call them and ask them to please wave the late fee(thats gonna be anywhere for 25-40 bucks) then pay them the phone fee to make the payment if they so no to waving the fee i would still pay it now and pay the fee becuase some cards after so many days of being late will start tacking on more charges. but speak to a live person.

usually the late charges are more than $9.95 --I probably would pay, though I think that extra payment to make it effective today is a complete rip off.

I would call and tell them that you have always had a good record with them. (They will be able to see that on their computer screen.) Ask them to wave the late fee by telling them this is the first time you have ever been late!

My husband has done this before and it works.

I did this once --had gotten busy and forgot--my cousin told me to call and it worked. They just don't want you making a habit out of it.

I recvd an email from a CC saying I missed two payments now! I have never even seen a statement and made a huge payment right then over the phone. I asked her to waive the fee for the phone payment and not to report it to the credit agency.

I never have missed a payment ever. Even 1 missed payment give the other CC the right to raise your interest on their cards. I am now at 8.24% with Advanta and have one at 6.99%.

Now to get out of debt completely!

I agree... I've done this once, and they waived the fee. They'd rather keep you happy than have you go elsewhere, in particular if you've been an on time payment person usually.

My CC company waived a late payment fee for me one time. It had been mailed, but was not received by the due date (this was probably over 7-8 years ago). They may give you a courtesy waiver once.

I am confused as to why you would pay the additional 9.95 if its already late?? I don't think there is a Difference if its 3 days or 6 days late, only if it goes over 30.
I know I am really hating credit cards these days ...
Last I had any credit card debt was 10 yrs ago. Wow things have changed!
This past yr , I have been using them more , and I am appalled at the fees and the Minimums due , AND how fast the creditors call you!! Man, you forget a payment - and day 3 they call you!!
Not that its good to forget ... I know thats bad... I am just amazed that they are so quick to charge you that 29.00 Late fee , then harass you with phone calls - when you have Never been late before and You haven't even been a week late yet

We pay off any debt we owe in Jan. When DH gets his Yr. end bonus.
Next year I doubt I will get back into Charging ... The companies dont even seem to value their " good " customers anymore.

If you have never been late- Call them. I have had this happen in the past and they will waive the fee.
