I was 8 months pregnant with my second son. I was watching GMA and I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. It is something I'll never forget.

I was 4.5 mos pregnant snuggling with my 7 mo, 3 yo & 4 yo. My brother called & told me to turn on the tv. I couldn't believe the heartache I felt thinking 'what kind of world am I bringing these kids into?'

Mom & I went to work at the Red Cross with my brother to help process donations. It ws truly amazing & inspiring to see all the letters & notes from prominent people in our community to school-aged kids.

I was at work, same place I wokr now, weheard it on the radio, I am in NJ and Dh worked in the Bronx at thwe time. I couldnt contatc him since the cell phone network was clogged and the tower that collapsed had the cell phone tower on it.
I coulnt call him and I remember that the first plane we thought was an accident , then when we heard the second flight then we knew something was wrong.
I remember just wanting to go an pick up my DS and go home.
I also remember when all the planes were grounded and the sky was empty. It was eerie since in the NJ threre is a lot of air traffic.

DH and a friend went to Brooklyn the night before and actually used the brooklyn brindge and drove right past the towers the night before about 12 hours before! that is scary!
I always regret that I never went inside them and up to the top. We went to the base many times.
it really was the day that changed the world forever. the innocence american had beofre this was lost on that day.

I had just gotten into my car and was heading to work when the second plane hit the World Trade Center. I lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland at the time and worked in Annapolis so I had to go halfway around the DC beltway to go to work. There were a lot of rumors at the time that the White House and Capitol building had been hit as well.

It took me forever to get to work (I think I was still in the car when the first tower came down). We were told to go home an hour or two later (I worked for a State Senator and no one knew if we were safe in a state government building). I didn't want to drive all the way back home since all of DC's government buildings had been evacuated by that time and I knew the beltway would be packed so I decided to drive to my parent's house instead.

My parent's house was only a few miles from Fort Meade so I had to take a few detours to get there (Fort Meade is the home of NSA and was pretty much on lockdown). My parents were on the road on their way to a convention for my dad's work (they were originally supposed to fly there but changed their minds and decided to drive) so my sisters and I spent the afternoon talking with my parents and my Dad's boss trying to figure out if they should turn around and head home or keep going. The convention ended up being cancelled because no one could get there. My parents spent the night on the road and got home the next morning.

My husband worked in Rockville (a suburb of DC) at the time, right down the road from the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene so I, of course, was a wreck wondering if he was safe too (he stayed at work all day). I kept trying to reach him on his cell and work phone, but the lines were jammed and it was hard getting calls out.

The beltway was deserted by the time I drove home that evening. My husband and I pretty much sat glued to the TV in shock - watching the recovery efforts and praying that they would find more survivors alive.

I know that it will be impossible to forget that day - especially living so close to Washington DC and in such close proximity to so many military bases. Both of my parents work on Fort Meade and for a long time after the attacks there were tanks and soldiers with machine guns manning the gates. Security is still tight now (I think the tanks are gone, but the people with the machine guns are still there).

Whenever I drive to Annapolis I drive right past the back of NSA - the National Security Administration (it's a highway, so no direct access unless you take a restricted exit). Every day for as long as I can remember since we moved to this part of town (October 2002) there have been military and regular police stationed on the highway in both directions. They aren't there to watch for speeders, they are there to watch for suspicious cars or trucks or other evidence of terrorist activity.

I am relieved that there are people out there, every day, placing themselves in harms way to watch out for us, but at the same time saddened that it had to come to this. God bless our troops and God bless the USA!

Well, 5 yrs ago I was working, heard about the twin towers, the crash in PA, the Pentagon, it was shocking, so surreal, unbelieveable what just happened. The big boss was in town, and closed the clinic for the first time, since I worked there, since all of our patients were military, and they put all the military on standby. I had mixed emotions, I felt sad for the families, that had lost loved ones, that day. It shocked our nation, & in some respects drew some people closer together, praying, wanting to help people, who had lost loved ones, became more patriotic. I didn't know at the time, what I would be called up to do for our country, but I would be ready to defend her. I hope, no one else forgets that day ever, we never know, when someone might try to do it again. so please don't forget.

my world was already at a stand still. the day before i took my then 6 month old ds to the dr and they thought the bleeding around his brain started again. so on the 11th i had the news on while i got ready to take ds to get a ct scan. when we got to the hospital all the tv's were on and that was when we saw the towers go down. i have never been so scared in my life. my dh worked afternoon/nights in atlanta so all day we were in contact with each other. i remember on one call we were talking when got all freaked out and hung up on me. later when i got back in touch with him he told me a halicopper (sp) came by their building (a highrise building) and everyone got all scared. after that his boss thought everyone needed to go home to be with their families. to this day when i see a plane and it looks close to the ground i get sick feeling all over.

On the 10th we had moved into a hotel for three weeks before we moved to Florida. We had closed on our house on the 7th. My son was 18 months old and we went down to breakfast where the Today Show was on. The first tower had been hit, but I remember thinking it was a Cessna or something when all of a sudden you saw the second tour get hit and then I knew it was bad. There was a phone in the lobby and I called my dh who was at the Air Force Base where he worked. They had locked it down.

It was horrible feeling like I did not even have the safety and security of a home. All of our stuff was on its way to Florida to be put in storage and here I sat in a hotel room with a toddler. It was very upsetting to say the least.

I was in bed asleep. My DH called me at 6:15 AM to tell me to turn on the TV and I got mad - I thought he might wish me a happy birthday. He explained quickly. I spent the rest of the day glued to the television with my parents (they were visiting) crying and asking "why". We left the house to go to dinner and I felt so guilty.

I was home sleeping since i worked 130-midnight the night before. My sister called me and be and my bf at the time just sat in bed watching it and just saying OMG this can't be happeneing. We both had to work that day.( Both worked for an airline) He was aircraft dispatcher and I was a supervisor of passanger service) We both called work and still had to go in that after noon. I stayed out side Dallas Ft Worth airport for 3 hours then went home to sleep since I had to go back in for an all nighter of watching planes sit on the ramp area. It was a longest 4 days of my life at work. We had to go threw every aircraft by hand and basicly tear it apart to look for anything suspicious. My job was never the same after that.
