Can you freeze deli meat???

I want to be able to go grocery shopping once every 2 weeks in hopes that I will save money and time! But I need deli meat every week for DH so..can I buy 2 lbs and freeze one for the week?

Has anyone done it? Does it still taste the same when defrosted in the fridge?

He doesn't like the prepackaged ones so that option is out.

Thanks for your help ladies

I have never done it so I can't attest to taste, but it can be done. Just make sure to wrap it tightly in a freezer bag or vacuum seal it (if you have one) to help keep the freshness. Also make sure to give yourself enough time to defrost it in the fridge. Don't leave it on the counter (for obvious reasons) or use the microwave as that will cook it slightly.

I HAVE frozen the prepackaged deli meats and they turn out and taste just fine.

Also, ask the deli people cutting it for you. They may be able to tell you also

Yup I do it all the time. I usually freeze ham because thats what dh eats the most of so I buy about 3lbs everytime I shop, then freeze them in 1lb increments. The only thing is there is alot of water in the bag when it thaws out, but after I drain it, its fine. I don't notice anything about the taste, and dh is happy to always have his ham for sandwiches on hand.

I do it a lot too. I get mine at BJ's it is so good and less expensive there. Then I freeze it in potions and thaw it later. I haven't had to much of a water issue. Maybe it depends on the type of meat. I have been doing Turkey and roast beef.

Great question!! I was wondering, but have always been hesitant about doing it. We are picky eaters... (okay... I AM a picky eater, dh isn't)

I do it too. I ask the deli people to package it 1/2lb increments then I freeze all but 1 package. With dh taking leftovers sometimes I never really know how much he'll use in a week so I always have some on hand if I need it. I take it out a day before I am going to need it and let it thaw in the fridge.

This is good to know, I have frozen packaged lunch meat and it gets really wet, but it still is fine.  I just dry the pieces on a paper towel before I use it.
