Healthy snack ideas

Since we are all talking about our weight loss goals, etc. I was wondering if we could share some healthy favorite snacks that maybe we did not think about????

1) I'm addicted to ff cottage cheese, with a small apple cut up and a sprinkle of cinnamon -- ooh it tastes so good!

2) I just heard of a half hard boiled egg, take the yoke out and put a little bit of hummus in it - haven't tried that yet but am going to.

3) Quaker Simply Harvest just came out with new granola bars. They are low in fat, high in fiber (only 3pts if doing WW). They have a chocolate chunk one -- they are good! And they do not have the high fructose corn syrup!!!

4) And another one I'm addicted to. An apple cut into slices and dipped into a little bit of almond butter -- very good!!! That has been my nighttime snack lately.

Hope you don't mind, but I moved this into the subforum "low-cal and special diets" because Jen and I want to make sure that this forum gets lots of attention too! People use it as a reference when looking for this very topic!

Hopefully some people will contribute their ideas to it!

I really like that Simple Harvest line too. Have you tried the oatmeal yet? Yummy! I love to snack on hummus and triscuits, apples and peanut butter, plain chickpeas - I take them out of the can and put them in a bowl in the fridge to get them cold and eat them up - they taste like boiled peanuts, real carrots cut into sticks (not the baby ones), apples with a little cinnamon sugar sprinkled on them, all bran bars, Quaker oatmeal raisin breakfast cookies, or a bowl of soup. I posted several of my soup recipes in the cooking forum and they are all very lowfat and healthy. The lentil tomato is to die for - I encourage all of you to try it! I have a great black bean soup recipe too if anyone wants it. And those of you that know me have been listening to me sing the praises of edamame for years. It is the BEST snack food and it is so good for you. You just take it out of the freezer and steam it for 3 min. and put a little salt on it and it is so, so good.

I thought of a few more. A cup of dry cereal with some fiber in it like Quaker Oatmeal Squares, string cheese, smoothies made from frozen strawberries and bananas and a splash of OJ (my kids LOVE these), yogurt with a handful of frozen blueberries and a little crunchy cereal, baked tortilla chips with a little bit of grated cheese on top in the microwave for about 15 seconds, wheat thins with those little circles of gouda cheese (they have so much flavor and you can break one circle into about 6 bite sized pieces and eat them with a wheat thin and they are very satisfying, air popped popcorn, parmesan chips (make little piles of parmesan on a baking tray and put in the oven on low heat for about 10 min. and let them sit for a few min. until they get nice and crunchy) - these are awesome on salads to make them a little more special....

I would like to add to maggie's smoothie idea that you can make fresh smoohties with any kind of frozen fruit and juice. We make frozen strawberries with banana and apple juice.
You could also make blueberry and apple juice. Or mangos and OJ. Just some thoughts.

I love making homemade popcorn on the stove with coconut oil and organic popcorn. So filling and great for you.
