My 4 1/2 year old lost his first tooth!

I know this event should be celebrated but I am worried. He's only 4 1/2 and has lost his first tooth. My BIL who is a dentist is in Iraq right now so I spoke with his wife (my dh's sister) and she told me that according to her readings and findings (she reads all her dh's text books ~ yes she's that smart), it sounded normal. My ds had all his teeth by 18 months so she attributes early tooth loss to early teething. Sounds good in theory right?

Ok, so I tuck him in for the night. We have the tooth in a baggie for the tooth fairy under his pillow. He's all excited (and very inquisitive...the questions...the questions) and then he says to me "mommy, my other tooth is loose too". The one beside the one he just lost, is very wobbly as well!

Trying not to freak out I asked him "did you eat something hard today? Did you fall somewhere? Did you hit yourself in your mouth at preschool?", to which all his responses were "no". I am hoping the other one does not come out (just yet) but I fear it will before the week ends. I will be calling our dentist tomorrow just to be safe

Were any of your kids early tooth loosers? LOL

thanks for the reassurance. Ds got his first TEETH at three months so yes he was an early teether too!

I guess it just seems too early for ME because I remember losing my first tooth in the first grade and I don't know any of his friends at his age or even a few years old, who have lost their's yet!

I'm sure he's fine and it's normal...but still......

I guess I just fear the fact they are growing up!

My ds lost his 1st tooth around 4 1/2 too, and the next one not long after that, then it seemed to slow down for my ds, he's 6 now and he lost one front tooth in Sept, but the other is still hanging on, I hope it comes out soon so I don't have to worry about him swallowing it, lol. My ds also got his baby teeth pretty early. HTH

*Funny story: my ds has to put his tooth under his pillow on the far side of his bed, he sez "its close to the window, where the tooth fairy will come in" lol!!! You should see me trying to lean over, reach under the pillow w/o being caught trying to take the tooth and leave the cash, its quite a feat!!

Holy cow!!! Don't mean to freak you out, but it would freak me if Luke lost one!!! None of my kids lost any teeth until at least age 7!!! My almost 8 yr old has only lost 2. I am sure it is fine though, just need to make sure he takes really good care of them, since he will have the permanent ones a little longer than most people.

Evan lost his first tooth at 4 1/2, he too started teething at 3 months! I would not worry about it. How much did the Tooth Fairie leave for his visit?

Ds woke up this morning in tears thinking the tooth fairy didn't come. Well she did come but she put the money inside his pillow case so it wouldn't fall off the bed. We found the $1.00 and all is right with the world now!
