The Duggar's Tater Tot Casserole?

Thread Starter

I was just wondering if any of you have tried this out yet??
That is what I have planned for dinner tonight and would like to know if I should plan something else .
I think that I would be using ground beef instead of ground turkey...Good idea? Bad idea?

TIA!

BTW- Here is the recipe:

I think this recipe wins the "most cans of cream-of-something-soup" in a recipe award.

TATER TOT CASSEROLE
2 lb ground turkey cooked, seasoned, drained
3 2lb bags tater tots
2 cans cream of mushroom
2 cans evaporated milk
2 cans cream of chicken
Brown meat & place in large cass. dish.
Cover with tater tots. Mix soup & milk together.
Pour over top. Bake at 350 for 1 Hour.
(One of Daddy’s Favorites!) Makes 2- 9â€X13†pans

Seriously - 4 cans of cream soup, plus 2 more cans of evap milk? Is the ground turkey supposed to make it appear healthy? I hope a boatload of veggies are served with this.

I always use ground beef when I make tater tot casserole, but I think either would taste great! I've always heard about their recipe. Let us know how it turns out!

I agree their recipe sounds a little liquid heavy to me. I always use ground beed, green beans, cream of mushroom (2 cans) , a little milk, cheese slices and tater tots.

Ditto! I dont like the sound of cream of chicken soup in tator tot casserole, but than I use hamburger. The evaporated milk sounds like a bit much, regular milk works just fine.

Ok, so I haven't made this yet (you guys made me kind of leary to do so). Do you still think that it's too liquidy even considering that there is THREE 2lb bags of tater tots .

I haven't made a tater tot cassrole before, so I wouldn't know.
I have all the ingredients for that recipe cut in half (because obviously I am not cooking for a dozen and a half people) what do I do now???

What are some of your recipes?

I make my for a family of five, so I cook up at least one pound of hamburger, than mix up the hamburger, soup (start with one can) one can of green beans and about 1/2 can of milk. Mix it all up. Add the second can of soup if the mixture does not look moist enough. Pour into a baking dish. Put enough tator tots on top to cover the casserole. Bake for 45-60 minutes until hot and tator tots are browned. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and bake for just a few more minutes, until cheese is melted.
This is a very easy and hearty meal. You could mix it up with any canned or frozen veggies that you like.

I make it the same as araefinn except I either put slices of cheese between the hamburger mixture and tots or mix in cubes of Velveeta with the Hamburger mixture (depending on what I have on hand). I make this and freeze them for future use.

This is what I make but cut the recipe in half.I only use 1 two lb. bag of tator tots.I mix the soups, milk and meat together than add the tots and bake until tots are nice and golden. It is one of our favorites around here.It is so filling you don't have to serve much with it.I do garlic bread and sometimes green beans.
