I'm compiling a list of the Top Ten money saving tips you've heard on Mommysavers. I'm asking the members to share 2-3 of their FAVORITE tips and how they've helped them save money. It could be something really unique that you'd never heard of before visiting Mommysavers, or just something common-sense that you put into practice that has saved you a lot of money.

I look forward to reading these!

Wow only 2 or 3 Let's see, I remember being thrilled at the idea of cutting dryer sheets in half and having it WORK! That was a big one for me

I love all the money advice especially the common sense things (make a list and stick to it, don't shop when bored/hungry, save money not spend so much).

I have to say though it is the STORIES behind the tips that really make it for me, I love to hear triumphs of the women here and it inspires me to try to do the same.

ITA with the dryer sheets- the same goes for laundrey detergent you don't have to use the manufracturer's recommendations for the laundry detergent as well, I use half of the first line and it washes my clothes just as well!

Honestly I think the best advice is to have a stockpile. I usually have a food, toiletry and gift stock pile at my home and it is a great thing to have- if money is tight you know you will have food for your family also you don't have to spend as much money on groceries (of course planning meals goes greatly with this). You also never have to worry about running out of toilet paper or if an unexpected thing like a birthday party when you really don't have the extra money! Oh with the stockpile I highly recommend buying the items you have in it on sale with coupons if possible!

the biggest tip i learned here is (this should be a no brainer) is to make a menu before you go grocery shopping. it avoids all the extras that you think you need and end up wasting money. i also cut my dryer sheets in 1/2 and use them a couple of times. i haven't bought dryer sheets in over a year! and i line dry clothing as much as i can, right now it's freezing in Montana, so just line drying the towels and jeans!

Using coupons and matching them with sales!! and try using them at a store that double them. That was a big one for me! It is a lot of work and time, but it is SOOO worth it!

Menu planning! I made a general grocery list pre-MommySavers, but in no way thought about specific meals for each day, and basing meals on what is on sale. Menu planning has greatly reduced my grocery spending.

Cloth napkins instead of paper has been a big help for me. Also using dish cloths and microfiber cloths in the kitchen and around the house instead of papertowels.

For me, the biggest one is STOP SPENDING! Know the difference between a want and a need.

Meal planning and/or avoid making little trips to the supermarket mid-week.

Using coupons and checking generic prices.

Also, I bring my lunch and coffee from home to work with me.

Realizing that I have (financial) dreams and littli eveyday splurges, even if they are a bargain, won't get me to them. FTJ in a nutshell.

Cutting out frequent trips to the stores.

Looking beyond the consumer in me. I never thought about it before but our lives really do rotate around shopping. I'm correcting that.

These are great! Keep them coming. Does anyone have any favorites regarding clothing, household, entertainment (anything other than food)?
