What movie, tv show, or video game will you not let your child watch or play?

My two ds couldn't watch the Soprano's with us when it was on. They usually watch movies with us if it doesn't have sex scenes. They play games that are rated in their age group.

My daughters are 7,5, and 3. We don't watch any of the Disney channel stuff (Hannah Montana type stuff). It is disturbing to me how it is geared to turn 5 year old into teens.

I know some of you will freak over this. If my children were older, maybe. Children should just be children.

My ds is 6, so he only watches G or PG rated movies. We don't have a playstation or Wii yet, so thats not an issue for us, but when we do get one he'll be using age appropriate games. There are a few TV shows that I don't let him watch such as South Park, Billy & Mandy & anything with smut, like Rock of Love etc. We do watch some shows with him in the room like CSI that may be over his head, but they don't hold his interest, so he doesn't really pay attention to it.

My kids are 11, 6, 4, & 3. My oldest can watch PG movies after my DH and I research it. My younger ones can watch only G. We have nothing to do with Bratz, Spongebob, pokemon, and a few others. We let our kids watch cartoons from when we were kids. But we don't let them watch any remakes of them. Like Scooby Doo and Superfriends. They seem darker.

As for Video games, we have a nintendo 64 and a Wii. We play E rated games. But we still research them. We do not purchase any game without renting it first.

My DH and I do not watch any of our shows with the kids in the room. My DH watches Lost up in our room with the door locked. And i take care of bedtime that night. He does the same for me when my show is on.

Our feeling is that kids are only young for a certain amount of time. If we let them watch PG-13 movies or shows now they will have nothing to look forward to doing later. Some of the subject matter in movies and TV shows are way to much for little ones to handle and they should not have to. They deserve to be young and innocent for as long as they need to be.

People think me & my DH are crazy because we think the same about the Disney shows! Our kids are 7, 5, 2 1/2 & 1. Our oldest is always saying his friends watch Hannah Montana, iCarly, Drake & Josh, High School Musical, etc. We tell him he can when we think he's old enough but right now, we don't think these shows are appropriate. Like you said, children should just be children!

I do not let my 10 year ds watch family guy, simpons, hannah montanna or jake and josh. No surivor or dancing with the stars ( i do not like the way the way dance a little suggestive and the clothes) american idol (dont need to hear critism gets enough from me sometimes lol)

Has for his ds e10 but we had to really look at it first and ask the people at the store about it.

He can listen to k love on the radio and that is about it .

He has watched stars wars and pirates of the caribean just the 1st one thought the squeals were not approiate.

Watched shrek 3 once and again did not find that apporiate this time because some of the stuff in it.

Ds just really isn't into TV, although he will tell you he Loves it! He's 6. The only things will watch consistently are Peep and Backyard Habitat. Oh and nature documentaries if the animals aren't ripping each other apart. He has never seen a Disney movie (doesn't like the tension in them) or any other movie which is fine by me. Oh and cooking shows he likes these too, especially ones set in different countries.

I never watch tv with him around either unless I watching Peep or Backyard Habitat or a cooking show with him. I don't even like the commercials. I tape everything and we watch the DVR. I just think even most commercials are inappropriate.

Maybe a shorter list would be what can they watch. My little one watches most of the classic preschool shows. She is 3. The middle children(11 and 13) watch the Disney Shows, they don't care much for most of the Nickelodeon shows, except Spongebob. I am about to block spongebob on the tv, so they can't put it on when the little one is in the room. I don't let them watch any shows on VH1 or MTV, expect maybe that dance team show. All movies PG and up I check out online before I rent. If they go to a friends house, they know they better call me before they watch something PG-13 or higher. My son is 16, and I have to let him make some of his own choices. I won't rent garbage for him, but I know he goes and sees movies with his friends that I don't like. He can play E and T on his playstation, no rated M games in this house. Basically, if it is something I would watch, I let him watch it. I don't feel I should be watching anything I don't want my 16 year old to watch.

I've never let my dd watch any of the 'Shrek' movies. IMO, they're too vulgar for kids.

I am very picky about what my kids watch. Here is what they can watch:
PBS kids
Nick Jr
Playhouse Disney
Spongebob (nothing wrong with it but it is the most stupid show around!)
Hannah Montana
Suite Life of Zach and Cody
Cory in the House
Drake and Josh

The last four they only started watching about a year ago. My older two are 8 1/2 and 10, so they get bored with the younger shows and I have watched the shows and feel they are okay. And actually I watch with them. It is good and clean for me too!

As for "grown up" type shows, they only watch Wheel of Fortune. Really that's it. Comedies and drama shows always have something inappropreiate (sp?) in them. I watch DWTS and love it. The kids have watched it with me, but most of the time they are in bed when it is on. Oh and they have watched I Love Lucy with me.
