How did becoming a parent change you?

I've become more responsible (I should hope) but I like having a plan and then a backup plan as well. I am also more concerned about the future. And I really, REALLY hate child preditors -- not that I ever liked them to begin with but now I really hate them.

I'm more paranoid
I'm a worry wart
I am EXHAUSTED
I'm learning to see the world through the eyes of a child and that is refreshing
I miss being spontaneous

I worry A LOT more
I am more conscious of the things I do or say
I think about the future much more (I used to be a very live for today girl)
I now find other peoples baby pictures cute, and am genuine when I say "I'd love to see them!"

Getting pregnant and becoming a mother did more than change my life, it saved my life. Without going into details, lets just say I was giving myself a really tough time in life and once I found out I was pregnant, I knew things had to change and I changed them. I am more giving, loving and responsible now. I am also more concerned of the future for my kids and grandkids, which in turn has made me more interested in sustainable living and brought out the hippie in myself.

I'm more careful and "softer". I was much more daring before I became pregnant. I'd try a steep slope, climb or ride a hard wave and not worry who was going to take care of the kids if I end up in the hospital. I tried to have a rough exterior to protect myself. I still try to be spunky within reason.

- I never knew I had the capacity to love someone as much as I do.
- I never thought I could worry about them as much as I do!
- I have a whole new respect for mothers of children with health challenges, and thank my lucky stars that my kids are healthy.
- I have a new contempt for school bullies and anyone who could hurt my children.
- I've come to realize that their happiness makes me happy and that life isn't about "stuff" it is about time together and laughter.
- I have a whole new respect for my parents, and why they did the things they did. - I GET IT NOW!!

It's made me more responsible.
I now think before I do or say something.
I am more intune with the future and what it's going to take to succeed or at least survive!
I'm more patient.
I no longer worry if stuff is laying around the house.

I have a much clearer sense of my morals and values. I know the reasons why I have the opinions I do. I had to because the kids have made me explain myself over and over again.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I read this thread. Very well said.
