i believe it was. it was like 10.00 an hour...and you could pick however many hours you needed. most moms picked about 4 hours per day...2-3 days a week...

that made it...120.00 per week. that's sort of steep...but now when you only need a mommy for say...2 weeks yanno? and the help that they provided while no one else was able was SUPER good.

i was thinking about starting a business like that...all it takes is insurance and bonding (you are going into their homes), and about one or two willing employees...and some advertising! the lady i interviewed with did her hiring through craigslist and had a link to her website up.

i would LOVE to help low income mothers who are pregnant and/or have children with something like this. a friend of mine and i are going to start a non profit program through the march of dimes to help minority, low income, and pregnant women with their pregnancies, i.e. encouraging them to eat properly, keep appointments, etc. it's called the healthy moms, healthy babies program right now though, i am trying to just hang on and do my own business idea...but i REALLY would love to work with pregnant women! i loved being pregnant, but i know how stressful it can be!

I was thinking it sounded like a doula, also, except doulas are there during the birth, too. Have you looked into becoming a doula? Or do you only want to be there after the birth?

i would only want to be there before the birth and after the birth of the baby...preferably before mainly with checkins up to a certain period of time after (say until the baby is a month old). but of course i would be there whenever the mommies needed me

i like the whole doula idea...but honestly, i don't want to be there during any births unless i was the ONLY person the mother had to call on, then i would do it in a snap.

i also wanted to be a lactation consultant for WIC or perhaps even on my own. i know alot about breastfeeding and HIGHLY encourage it but have never had any "formal" education in the field...so i don't know what i could do with that?

Doulas were expensive when I looked into them, including the postpartum ones who wanted around $600 a week.

$10 an hour?? That's a bargain. Even 3x a week for 2-4 hours each day...well deserved for a new mom!
