We were flat broke when our first son was born--hand me downs kept us afloat after he grew out of his newborn shower gifts. I am so thankful to everyone who offered us their used baby clothes; I pay it forward now to anyone I see in need.
I do not understand people who refuse or are ungracious toward being offered hand me downs. I once overheard a woman gasp in shock when her mom asked if the woman's sister gave her little girl her cousin's hand me downs--like it would kill her 3 yr old princess to be caught in something her cousin had worn to a family party. That's just snotty, IMO.

I give and LOVE to accept hand-me-downs!!!

Yesterday, my friend asked me if I wanted some of her baby stuff for my 8 month old. I was like, YES, PLEASE!!! She said that some people get offended when she asks. I told her she never had to ask, I would take!!!

We have no problem with it, but we haven't had any in a very long time. This came in really handy when we were first married and had our DD, my DH worked with a gal that had a daughter that was only about 1 year older and she gave us boxes and bags of clothes for nothing and this really helped us out.

I havent gotten any hand me downs in years. I always gladly take them. Last time we got some dh's brother gave me a big garbage bag full of them. I was pretty excited until I went thru it, 98% of the stuff was either stained or had holes in it. Now why would you give someone clothes like that is beyond me.

Not only do I accept them, I have several years worth that I'm keeping in the basement. M's next oldest girl cousin is 6 years older.

I love hand-me-downs and never pass them up!!! I know a lady who has a son who is about 6 months older than our son and she constantly has clothes for us. I bought him a couple things on sale last Christmas and his birthday and that's been it! That saves so much money!
I've found someone who wants our girls' clothes so its nice to get it out of here and help someone else!

Hand me downs are great.
but I have never really gotten any since the only people who I know have kids who are in the same size clothes as my kids.
