We were flat broke when our first son was born--hand me downs kept us afloat after he grew out of his newborn shower gifts. I am so thankful to everyone who offered us their used baby clothes; I pay it forward now to anyone I see in need.
I do not understand people who refuse or are ungracious toward being offered hand me downs. I once overheard a woman gasp in shock when her mom asked if the woman's sister gave her little girl her cousin's hand me downs--like it would kill her 3 yr old princess to be caught in something her cousin had worn to a family party. That's just snotty, IMO.
