Frustrating Search for the PERFECT Sippy Cup!!!

Ya know, I used to wonder why friends who had small children, always had so many different sippy cups in their cupboard. I used to think...if you like one kind...why not stick with it...why buy many different kinds and try to find matching lids...etc....

Well now know! It's because you have to try out every different kind of sippy cup on the market to find a right fit!!!

So first, I tried the NUBY cups. I loved them because the tops are rubber and are easy to transition from bottle. Problem: They dump way to easily and sometimes the tops pop right off if dropped from..say...a highchair!

Next, I have the little Gerber Graduates Cups...smaller than the NUBY cups..have an insert to keep juice in...top doesn't come up...great!...Problem: You have to suck pretty hard to get the liquid out so the child gives up!

So here it is....I need help! I need a sippy cup that: won't leak (when shaken), lid won't cup off, insert won't fall out, but also isn't too hard to actually get the juice out.

My daughter is 18 months and doesn't like the straw cups....but if anyone can help, I would love it! I just don't want to waste anymore money!!

My DD and yours must be friends as she is driving me crazy with this. We have tried everything. So far the Sigg is winning because it is pink princess. It doesn't spill when dropped and keeps milk cold. My DD recently started liking straws so it has openned a couple more doors. Good Luck.

We went to regular cups (kid sized that I got at Ikea) by that age, however we used a playtex cup (i believe) for in the car.

My son who is now 22 months uses the early stages ones that can be toss and throws or something like that. It's the plastic ones that are meant to be thrown away. We have gone through quite a bit of them simply because DS likes to chew on them.

We've had pretty good luck with the regular Playtex sippy cups. The valves stay in much better than the Gerber cups, the tops don't pop off, they don't leak, and my kids never had a problem getting the liquid out (although my younger son did start with the straw cups because he couldn't figure out the concept of tipping the cup back to be able to suck the liquid out at first).

The only ones my little one would take were the cheap disposable ones I get at Target. They work great for us and if you loose one it is no big deal.

I agree with the "disposable" ones. It is MUCH easier to suck out of, and they definitely don't leak as much. I loved how they didn't have to have the little inserts. Plus, as long as no one chewed on the lid, I got mine to last a good six months or more (and paid about $5 a four pack!). Oh...and I also used the dishwasher to wash the cup AND lid, so if you handwashed, you could probably go longer!

i would also try the take along ones we used those for a few months then got the character one with the straws and dd loves them.. nows a perfect age to teach them to put their cups on a certain little table or in the kitchen so they are not carrying them around we started about that age and dd does great with it then i don't have to worry about spilling. not to mention once they hit 2 sippy cups can push out the front teeth leading to dental issues.

Thanx for the help everyone! This helps to put me in the right direction! I was thinking of the playtex ones next, so I will grab a couple when I go to the store tomorrow. I will also try the disposable ones too. I thought she might be too young for those because she LOVES to dump her cup upside down to get the liqid out so she can play in it (she is obsessssssed with water!!!) That's part of the problem I had been having! But again...thanx for the advice!!

My DD is 20 months old and she has always used the Gerber sippy cups that are color changing.... when the cold liquid goes in, the cup changes color and when the liquid gets room temp. the cup changes back to its original color. We have had no problem w/ these cups.
