Have your shopping habits changed??

ARe you buying more of one thing and less of another due to the rising costs of groceries and gas??

I find myself stockpileing ALOT more right now as I'm thinking about my winter oil bill. I'd rather be focused on paying that as opposed to grocery shopping every week.

Not too bad. We buy only what we need. But that changed when I got laid off and that was before gas. Now we are just super careful. We plan meals and use what we have. We are not throwing out anything anymore. I am pretty proud of us for that.

I am stock piling like crazy-I figure I have the room so why not. I know what and how many of certain items that we go thru in a months time so I am not gonna stock pile something like 100 boxes of hamburger helper when I maybe only make it once a month. But I have a good stock pile of non-food items too.

Shampoo for dh and me-8 bottles
Kids shampoo-8 bottles
Kids body wash-7 bottles
Bars of soap-one dozen or more
Body wash-4 bottles

I could go on. I got all of the above on sale and coupons. Some items I only paid .79 like the J&J kids shampoo and body wash. I am going to start using about 1/2 my paycheck each month to stock pile on food and non food items. That way when our lean months come around (and they always do), I know that we will all have food and things to keep us clean and smelling good.

I'm not necessarily stock piling more but I am more conscious of buying something - do I need it? will I need it soon? will it last? is this the best price I can get it for?

I just finished reading, Miserly Moms, and now look at weekly ads from stores that I never before shopped because my general impression was that they were pricier than my regular grocery store. I've discovered some better deals at the higher end stores, particularly their Loss Leaders.

I'm learning, with the help of my Price Book, that visiting more than one grocery store is actually saving me money, even with higher gas prices. This is especially true because the stores I watch are across the street from one another.

I started stockpiling months ago, and really, really like the convenience of it. Shopping in my own pantry and freezer, and being able to make several healthy meals without running to the store makes me happy
