What is your most frugal meal you serve? - Page 3

I would have to think in the long run baked spaghetti is our most frugal meal. DH makes a big pan of spaghetti, tops with cheese, and bakes. This makes several lunches for both of us as well.

Last night we had hot dogs left over from camping and apple sauce and mac and cheese (noodles, milk and some slices of american cheese!). I thought that was cheap for a quick and easy meal, especially since we NEVER eat hot dogs.

My cheapest meal is preparing a turkey that I get on sale this time of year for ultra cheap.

I get the biggest turkeys I can when they're on sale (last year it was 4--good thing we have plenty of freezer space) for 30 or 40 cents/pound.

One turkey will feed our family of four for MANY meals.

1st-Turkey Dinner
2nd-Leftovers/Sandwiches
3rd-Soups
4th-Casseroles
5th-More Soups
6th-More Casseroles

I can easily say that we get 6-10 meals out of one 25 pound turkey if we use up the leftovers.

After a few days, we always strip the meat, dice it and freeze in 1 or 2 cup increments. It makes it SOOO easy to add to soups, casseroles, or any meal that we are making and can sub turkey for chicken.

Would you mind sharing how you make the fried cornbread?

We do some of the same meals as listed above...ramen with veggies and sometimes with eggs added (like egg drop soup), spaghetti, and breakfast for dinner come to mind. I also like to do a 'baked potato bar' whenever potatoes are cheap.

My most frugal is usually a pot of soup.
One is Cheese Soup that my grandmother used to make for me.
Its just a pot of water with a few spoonfuls of chicken broth paste, a box of macaroni noodles, and 8 slices of cheese. Yummy and great for when you are sick!
Also would probably be a egg sandwich or grilled cheese sandwich.
