I love to get gift cards and I always give them. It's not that I didn't put any thought into a gift, I can put tons of thought into a present, and still get something for someone that they either cannot use, don't like, don't need, etc. This way they can get what they need or have a free meal at a nice restaurant or whatever. I like to get them for the same reason. When my daughter was born, we got WAY too many clothes from family, friends, co workers. So much that she would never wear. We also got tons of things like receiving blankets, bibs, baby washcloths, baby shoes, which we had saved a lot of from her older brothers to use for her. She even got some duplicate items from different people that shopped at the same store. We had to return a lot of it for things we did need (formula, diapers, preemie clothes as most of the clothes were just too big.) I felt SO guilty returning things that I knew people had put so much time and effort into picking out for her and some of the things were just so adorable, it was hard to take back, but if they sat in the closet and never got worn, then that would be money wasted. I also felt bad for the store employees that had to put all those things back. And we can always use a gift card to anywhere. It's money in a different form.
