Gift cards: Love 'em or hate 'em? - Page 4

I love gift cards- giving them & getting them.

I'd rather just have people give me the money. That way I can spend it on whatever I want rather than being restricted to a store that I sometimes don't want to spend money at.

I love em but have a bad habit of hoarding them like they are too precious and I cant decide what to buy. Recently I found a couple of cards that the balance had been eaten away by "user fees" (or non-user fees they should be called) but I found b/c of the state I live in they re not allowed to charge me a fee and when I called they reinstated the cards to the full amount. This website showed me they werent allowed to do it for my state Fact sheet on state gift card protection laws

I like to give them as part of a gift too like the card in the mug for starbucks, or attached to a small toy for kids ones.

I kind of feel like GIVING giftcards is a little impersonal, but i LOVE to RECEIVE them!!!!!! I will give a giftcard as a last resort if i can't think of another item to give, and i do give them to the teenagers in the family who are really picky.

I do find that i hoard my giftcards and only use them when i really need them. I like giftcards to stores like Khols and Lane Bryant where i have no choice but to shop for myself!

I love to get gift cards and I always give them. It's not that I didn't put any thought into a gift, I can put tons of thought into a present, and still get something for someone that they either cannot use, don't like, don't need, etc. This way they can get what they need or have a free meal at a nice restaurant or whatever. I like to get them for the same reason. When my daughter was born, we got WAY too many clothes from family, friends, co workers. So much that she would never wear. We also got tons of things like receiving blankets, bibs, baby washcloths, baby shoes, which we had saved a lot of from her older brothers to use for her. She even got some duplicate items from different people that shopped at the same store. We had to return a lot of it for things we did need (formula, diapers, preemie clothes as most of the clothes were just too big.) I felt SO guilty returning things that I knew people had put so much time and effort into picking out for her and some of the things were just so adorable, it was hard to take back, but if they sat in the closet and never got worn, then that would be money wasted. I also felt bad for the store employees that had to put all those things back. And we can always use a gift card to anywhere. It's money in a different form.

Same reasons I like to give and receive gift cards. I like those mall gift certificates even better though because then you can use them in any stores in the mall.

Love them. My relatives never know what to get me, and know where I like to bargain shop and get me those gift cards. It's great!

A restaurant gift card is one of the few ways we manage to go out to dinner, so I kind of like them.
But store gift cards are another story. This sounds silly, but I kind of feel pressured to get the most for the money when I use a gift card. I wish I could let go of that feeling and just treat myself, but I can't.

I enjoy gift cards. I can get what I want and it's just easier for everyone.
