How long do you let a sore throat go before going in?

I have had a sore throat for 6 days now. It is worse than the first few days, but really has just "maintained" the last few. I have no fever, but I do feel achy, have a few white spots in the back, and just feel ick. But, I can't afford the dr. if it is just a virus! How long would you go before caving?

I would go in (tho we have insurance so I dont have to worry about that )
but the white spots are a sign of strep! good luck

I was all ready to say don't worry until I read the part about white spots. That would worry me. Do you have allergies? Sometimes my allergies give me a sore throat (but not those pesky white spots still). Have you tried gargling with salt water? You could maybe try that a few times tonight to see if you're better, but if not you may need to call tomorrow. Hope you feel better soon!!

def try the gargling warm salt water!!!That kills bacteria and might help but if it is strep......youre gonna have to cave eventually

Hope you feel better soon.

If you have spots I would go in. But usually I wait a week or two... which I am sure isn't too smart.

well if you have white spots its probably strep.. so you will probably need meds. do you have a minute clinic in one of your drug stores my sister goes to these for that type of thing its cheaper and she can get the meds she needs.

i tend to wait until i can't move or function at all.

I agree the minute clinics are great if you have them...much cheaper than a dr visit. Hope you are feeling better soon!

I woke up today with it not quite as sore...so I am holding off. Unfortunately, my 4 year old woke up pinching her neck...and when I asked, she said HERS hurts now. I am thinking this is a virus, as she also has not got a fever. I'll keep you updated!
