Investments that help you save money - Page 2

My laptop! I've found more great deals from various deal alert boards online, not to mention the various coupons and boards with good ideas.

My bread machine - it has saved me a lot of money on bread and it tastes so much better and I know what is in it.

little calculator in my purse - I often use it to check out what is actually a better deal - figure out the price by the oz - sometimes big is better and sometimes not.

I have all three copies of the Tightwad Gazette books. I know a lot of the ideas are non-conventional, but I read them mostly for inspiration. They kind of just get me fired up to use less and save more.

Our programmable thermostat is great for automatically turning the temp down at night while we sleep.

This might be a bit off, but we had to replace a car (it kept breaking down) and we got one that gets twice the mileage as the old one.  We are saving on gas and hopeful will make up for the car purchase over the year.

We put weather stripping on our garage door - it seems to hold the heat out during the summer and cold out in winter. It's great as we have 2 doors from our house going to the garage.

What we have bought

New car- (the old one was getting expensive to fix and the new one also gets better gas mileage)

two heaters- there are only two rooms we regularly use during the day and we only have two bedrooms so the theory is heat the rooms you're gonna use not the whole house. The bathroom stays warm by itself since it is smaller.

cloth diapers & nursing pads

a bread pan- i grew up eating bread machine bread and found that even though you do more work yourself I like bread pan bread better

freezer

soda stream and one of the over priced but worth it adapters that allows us to use our own c02 container instead of the soda stream one and bulk soda syrup in our favorite soda flavors (we're not to fond of the soda stream versions and we save more in the long run buying bulk brand name syrup anyway)

I have to agree with another poster that the laptop (or access to any computer) is a money saver because you can look up deals and research ways to save money

got the printer for coupons so that we could save money but I never use the coupons so really the cost of the printer the ink and paper have all gone to waste- of course i don't have a coupon organizer maybe i should invest in one.

magic jack phone

netflix to replace cable thinking about hulu plus too

i've also attempted to grow herb and vegetable gardens numerous times but i'm not all that great at taking care of plants so everything I invest in that goes down the drain

another attempt at money saving that goes down the drain is any craft supplies and the sewing machine because I start projects but never finish them

My freezer, bread machine, and kitchen aide mixer have all saved me a good deal of money. Oh and so has the new hair scissors I bought to cut my girls hair.
