What are your favorite Aldi convenience meals/items?

Thread Starter
I posted in this thread about their bagged salmon that was easy, and really good: http://mommysavers.com/boards/grocer...ly-6-aldi.html . I really like trying their frozen meals and the things in the "Special Purchase" section. What are your favorite Aldi meals that are quick and easy?

I personaly have a hard time deciding what to make myself for lunch. Last time I was there I picked up some Fit & Active frozen lunch entrees. I have only tried The Lean Stuffed sandwhich (like a hotpocket) it was okay! At first I was a little turned off because the sauce is defintly more orange than red but I guess its a mixture of the cheese...anyway tasted ok!

Just a word to the wise...make sure you DO do comparison shopping when shopping at Aldi. A friend of mine who's dh lost his job two weeks ago did this today. She was shocked (and so was I!) to find that milk was $.40 MORE there, grapes were $.03 more, and a few other things. Overall, it DOES save money on a ton of items, but it is a really good idea to keep a notebook in your purse to write down and compare prices when shopping!!!

That said....my favorite is the little things that add up to big prices. Five of my six pack lunches....so I have to buy a lot of that kind of stuff. Yogurt is a biggie...almost half the cost of Walmart!! Sandwich meat...the GOOD stuff....double the package for cheaper! Oh..and the biggest is probably BREAD. We never buy bread anywhere else now. This includes bagels, english muffins, buns, etc. They have GREAT deals there!!

A friend of mine says their Stir Fry packages are as good as the ones she used to pick up at Costco!

If I'm around there, I like to get their precooked frozen meatballs. Much cheaper than the grocery store, although not quite as good.

I buy all my canned goods there.
Also granola bars and fruit snacks.

I use their granola bars if I must but truly the price difference for Natures Valley with a coupon is only a few cents...to me nothing compares to Nature Valley

I often shop there for canned tomatoes, soup broth, mushrooms, frozen pizza (the one around $2.25/each). One of my soap box issues is watching for hydrogenated items and find a lot of box stuff to include that. They do have a yummy breaded fish that I like, but probably my favorite is in the meat dept. It's the Applewood (I believe) chunk of ham. I use it for eggs, sandwiches when I slice it small enough, scalloped potatoes and just for a quick snack. It's cheaper than deli meat or ham at the regular store.

mexican pizzas and rice. you can get everything you need there: vegetable oil, corn tortillas, fat free refried beans, block of colby jack cheese, tomatoes, salsa, hot sauce and rice. fry up the tortillas in the oil until crispy, but not burnt. cover evenly with the refried beans. shred the cheese and sprinkle ontop of the beans. put in 350 oven until cheese is bubbly. dice tomatoes. top pizzas with tomatoes, salsa and hot sauce. serve with white rice.

The nearest Aldi's store for us is 30 mins away, so we don't do much of our shopping there. But when ever we are by there I Always get 2 gallons of milk there, their price is $1.99 a GAL, where everywhere else is between $3.99 and $5.00 a GAL. The other great find is ther Gogourt.. our kids love it and it's much cheaper than walmart. As far as their frozen packaged meals.. we tried 2 different kinds, a tex mex ..type thing and no one really liked it.. and the other was a cassarole type dinner, it was just okay. If the store was closer I would stop in more often just to check out the differnt type things they offer.
