Welcome to the Frugal Foodie

Charlotte Flax: “A word about Mrs. Flax and food: the word is "hors d'oeurves." Fun Finger Foods is her main source book and it's all the woman cooks.” -- From the movie Mermaids
Welcome to the first edition of my new blog, The Frugal Foodie. I decided to answer the call to create my own blog because I wanted to combine several of my passions: cooking, writing and saving money. If I have the encouragement of all of you behind me, I’m more likely to follow through on pursuing these interests. As an added bonus, my family is more likely to eat well too.
The Frugal Foodie is based on my belief that flavorful meals don’t have to cost much or take a lot of time. My loves are international foods (I love to travel, but since I have two kids and a limited budget the closest thing I’ll get to Tuscany is the Risotto). I also am mad for appetizers and finger foods (think Mrs. Flax from Mermaids).
So, you may be wondering: who exactly is the Frugal Foodie? I’m a 30-something stay at home mom who as been experimenting with cooking on a limited budget for about 15+ years. I don’t have any formal training, and my harshest critics are the little people who live in my house (since they also think corn dogs and Spaghettios are good eats, I’m inclined not to trust their judgment). I do, however, have a reputation in my circle of friends as a culinary adventurer and have won raves for my recipes. I am also known as a cheap ass. Think Lynette Scavo from Desperate Housewives meets Rachael Ray (although I’m not as annoyingly perky as Rachael and my neighbors aren’t nearly as scandalous as Lynette’s).
I hope you enjoy my recipes. Take them for a taste drive, and leave your comments: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Let me know if you love my creations. Let me know if your dog turned up his nose. You won’t offend me. I wear my big girl panties with pride.
Bon Appetit! --FF

I'm looking forward to reading and experimenting. I love to cook too and as a mom of three young kids, I appreciate quick and cheap good recipes.
Great! I've been putting off looking for new cheap and easy recipes and been serving the same stuff over and over! Looks like this might be a good place to start fresh! So get to posting some recipes! And remember... Im on a budget!

Great idea to create this blog and I can't wait to try your ideas. Perfect timing for a soon-to-be mommy who will be on a budget once I take leave once the baby is born!
