Throw a Back to School Party by Kimberly Danger

If your kids are dreading the end of fun-filled summer days, a party might be just what they need to get excited about going back to school.  This works for kids of all ages, and can be modified according to age.

Guest List:  For kids entering a new school, this is a great opportunity to invite kids who will be in their class they they may not know very well.  Contact your child's school to see if you can obtain a class list.

Decorations: Make a banner that says, "Welcome Back to School" or "School Days".  Apples are another idea for a theme.  For older children, you can use the school mascot in your theme.

Food: A cake with black frosting and white writing can be made to look like a blackboard... Write the words "Back to School" on the cake.

Activities:  Have each guest bring photos from their summer vacations or other summer activities.  The kids can share stories about what they did during their break.  Have contests for "grew the most", "darkest suntan", or "who traveled farthest on their vacation".

Prizes/Favors: School supplies such as pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc.  You can gear the prizes toward the required supply list for your child's grade level.
