Frugal Halloween Costumes: Dalmatian

For an inexpensive dalmatian costume - buy white sweat pants and a white sweat zip up jacket.  Paint black spots randomly with fabric paint and cut out 2 felt "ears" to sew to the hood. -- Shellee from OH

My sister made a simple dalmatian costume by buying an inexpensive hooded white sweatshirt and sweatpants, painting black dots on it, and adding black ears to the hood. Her son wore it for two Halloweens, and now our nephew will wear it. -- Martha from ND

Purchase white sweatpants and white hooded sweatshirt or plain white unhooded sweatshirt. Buy black felt and cut out dalmatian spots. Sew spots loosely onto sweats with black thread. For ears-cut doggy ears out of felt and sew onto sides of hooded sweatshirt or if no hood-glue ears onto a hair band. Add a black nose and spots with Halloween face paint. After Halloween-remove felt spots from sweats with a seam ripper and viola- a sweat suit for your child's fall wardrobe. If you are reluctant to let your "Messy" Marvin or Mary wear white, you could always turn the white sweats into a unique outfit by decorating the articles with fabric paint for fall or Christmas or with everyday embellishments like flowers, swirls of color with rhinestones, their name, cars, any thing your child likes. Or, purchase iron-on outlines and paint inside the lines-makes a great art project for the kids too. -- Sheila Ann from TN
