Frugal Mom’s Night with Gourmet Goodies Courtesy of ALDI Food Stores + $50 Gift Card Giveaway

aldi partyWant to throw a Frugal Mom’s Night “In” for ten friends, spoil them with gourmet goodies AND have a great time?  I did!  I put the entire party together for around $50 — and that price included gourmet cheeses, desserts AND the wine!  Plus, is giving away $50 in ALDI gift cards so that YOU can do the same thing for your own friends.

On the Menu:

  • Baked Brie (see the Baked Brie recipe HERE – it’s just four ingredients!)
  • Assorted Cheeses:  Port wine with almonds, honey goat cheese, creamy Havarti
  • Belmont Premium Cheesecake Sampler
  • Cocktail Rye Bread
  • Savortitz 6-Cracker Assortment
  • ALDI Landshut Riesling

The Baked Brie was fabulous and very easy to make; but everyone’s favorite was definitely the Edenvale Honey Goat Cheese Log.  At only $1.99, it was a TRUE bargain and I am definitely going back to get more.  It was so yummy I wanted to lick the wrapper when it was gone!  I got everything at ALDI down to a poinsettia to put on the table ($3.99) and disposable plates and napkins ($1.99 each).

About half of my guests had never been to ALDI before, but after sampling all the goodies said they’d definitely check it out.  The other half who had been to ALDI shops there mainly because of the price.  We all agreed their products are just as good as normal stores but cost much less.  Julie said she does her main grocery stock-up trips there, and fills in with other stores (since ALDI is a limited-assortment store, they don’t carry everything you may need).

aldi giveaway holiday party

Christmas sweaterFor frugal fun, I asked all the guests to bring a wrapped white elephant gift.  AmyJo was the lucky recipient of this FABULOUS Christmas sweater she’s having a little too much fun modeling here to your right.  Other things that were re-gifted:  a half-used Yankee candle, a pair of Alaska-themed socks, and a set of three wine glasses.  A white elephant gift exchange would be especially fun to do with your friends after the holidays as a way to give away some of the gifts you weren’t exactly thrilled about.

aldi wineIn Minnesota, we can’t buy the ALDI wines due to laws governing liquor sales in grocery stores. However, I was lucky enough to snag a couple bottles on a recent trip and brought them back home with me.  If you’re fortunate enough to have access to them you’ll definitely want to give them a try.  Paula (pictured here to your left) says she preferred the ALDI Landshut Riesling to the Turning Leaf Riesling we opened when it was all gone.  Plus, it retails for only $4.99 a bottle.

Disclaimer:  ALDI provided the refreshments for my party and gift cards for my guests.  All opinions are my own and those of my guests.

I didn’t know we can’t get wine at Aldi in MN :( Bummer! I guess I would have to skip the wine, I would serve a cheese/meat cracker tray, little smokies with BBQ sauce, a couple dips and chips, and cheese cake for dessert. Would have to have some kind of chocolate too!

  2. Amie E says:

I would offer up apps, dessert & wine. Also would do the white elephant gift exchange after Christmas but would also ask each person to bring a gift/donation and non-perishable item to deliver to needy kids in our community. I would also make dishes from Aldi purchased foods to give to needy. :-)

  3. Amy Parker says:

If I won, we’d spend the evening playing a board game or card game that we all wanted to play (not the kids), share some recycled gifts (that sounds real fun), have some chocolate, cheese, and salty stuff, along with some grown-up drinks to wash it down. We’d have one rule. . .No talking about girl scouts, kids, husbands, laundry, or any of the things we usually talk about. Sounds like so much fun!!

  4. Rachael P says:

I would serve chips and dip, pig in a blanket, meatballs, little smokies with BBQ, truffles, and cookies! Our Aldi’s doesn’t sell wine but it sounds so good!

  5. Elisha Goulet says:

I would have our first ever ladies Christmas party in our rural neighborhood! Living 30+ miles away from even a walmart really puts a damper on us ladies going out. I’m the new gal on top of it :(. We have an aldi in the nearest town and I love it! (I used to live very close to 2 big cities). I can get wonderful gourmet things there that are REALLY rare out here. Hope I win. Have an awesome holiday!

Bunko and treats from Aldi. Cheesecake, Chocolate fondue, Cheese and Crackers, Veggie dip and chip and some good wine!

  7. Michelle says:

We could share some of our frugal tips. I would serve cheese, crackers, wine and some of their delicious fruit and chocolate!

  8. amanda says:

I like to get together with all the leftover candy and cookies we don’t want to keep in the house come the New Year and get rid of it. especially those gift baskets you get at work that has the candy/food assortments. open them all up and put it all out.

  9. Margot S. says:

I would definitely serve some of the great wines that Aldi sells. I would also do a cheese platter with cheddar, swiss, and including my favorite cheese, Havarti with Dill, that Aldi sells. I would also serve a dessert wine with the incredible chocolate truffles that Aldi has. The cheesecake sampler looks incredible too!

For entertainment, I would like to play something like Pictionary with large easels.

  10. Tina Falasca says:

I would host a euchre night for all my mommy friends and serve lots of that brie! It looks delicious and I love dried cherries. And definitely the wine!

Wow! I love all of these ideas. We do have Aldi and here in SC we are allowed to buy wine. For my family’s Christmas gathering last week, I did all of the shopping at Aldi. The spiral sliced honey baked ham on the Hawaiian Rolls was the hit of our meal! I want to try the baked Brie recipe. Sounds delicious and fun!

  12. The Aldi’s closest to me does carry wine but I’ve never bought it I would buy the wine & have finger foods like sausage balls, crackers & assorted cheese, different dips like Rotel, Veggie, etc. Also serve potato chips, fritos, & tortilla chips. For dessert we would have buckeyes, cookies, danish, & donuts :) For entertainment, watch Bridesmaids & The Help–& maybe play a game of “Truth or Dare” LOL .. :) Thanks for the contest & good luck everyone. My mom & I are on a budget so the gift card would be a big help to us.

  13. Ciara says:

I would have my stay-at-home mom friends over for an evening to enjoy fun, food, and fellowship. Our Aldi has a great assortment of cheese, so I would serve cheese and other assorted appetizers. I am nursing so wine at my party! :)

  14. susan says:

We just got an ALDI’s here and I would love to go on a shopping spree with the gift card and invite some great Mom’s over to celebrate the New Year with a gourmet cheese and cracker ,fruit & veggie crudites platter and a little wine on the side. Thanks so much for your consideration!

  15. Bekah says:

I love the Brie for an appetizer. I would also do a make-your-own Panini Bar (it’s a Rachael Ray idea) and do Chocolate Fondue. That Cheesecake Sampler looks awesome too!

We actually already did a Christmas-White Elephant thing. But we have also talked about doing a clothing exchange or a toy exchange (since we all have small children). In a clothing exchange, you each bring at least 10 items or clothing and/or accessories (in great condition). Then you take turns picking one item, until each one is taken or the interest in those items run out. A Toy exchange would work the same way.

Either way, we always have fun when the girls get together!

Well there was this really cool groupon type coupon a couple weeks ago for 2 hours in a party bus. I thought it would be fun to get a bunch of girls together to just drive around for 2 hours and drink, eat and listen to music! How fun to bring goodies from Aldi’s. I shop there all the time and am very impressed with the selection and quality of their food. I would serve cheese and crackers, some sweets and some adult beverages.

  17. July says:

I love to try new wine, cheese and snacks! We would love to host a wine tasting. I have created beaded wine glass markers for everyone! They are sooo cute! I love baking and have been making my baking supply purchases from Aldi for years!!!

  18. Barbara Montag says:

We’d have such a fun party!
Would all dance with the Wii Just Dance.
And indulge in hot chicken wings and jalapeno roll ups.
    Yes we like hot food!
    Thank you.

  19. Alicia Harmon says:

We would play Christmas “Minute-to-Win-It” games, like “hang-the-ornaments-on-the-yardstick-balanced-on-a-papertowel-roll”, and “marshmallow-through-the-wreath-toss”. I would serve chips and homemade salsa, cheese and crackers and fruit, some meatballs, and wine. And of course the DELICIOUS Melted Snowman Sugar Cookies (w/ peppermint icing)!!!
