For years, I’ve listened to women tell me how lucky I am because I wear a size 6 1/2 shoe, and that’s all they ever see on the clearance racks. While I don’t necessarily think that’s true (to me, it seems like the cute shoes are always left in sizes 9 1/2 and above), I do know of one other way that my small feet are an advantage when it comes to getting great prices on shoes. That’s by shopping in the girls’ department.
If you wear a size 7 shoe or smaller, don’t forget to sneak on over to the girls’ section to check out what they have to offer. Recently, I found some of the same styles and brands I like in ladies’ boots on sale for less than half price but in girls’ sizes at Marshalls: Michael Kors, Stuart Weitzman, and Steve Madden. All were less than $29.99.
Here’s a size comparison:
Ladies’ shoe size 5 = Girls’ shoe size 3
Ladies’ shoe size 6 = Girls’ shoe size 4
Ladies’ shoe size 7 = Girls’ shoe size 5
The next time you’re hunting for shoe bargains in-store or on sites like 6pm, Zappos, or Piperlime – don’t forget to check out the girls’ shoes as well. They often have plenty of styles that you would wear, and don’t look juvenile at all. Not only that, you may just find a steal of a deal!

Another nice bonus of being able to buy kid’s shoes is that the heel is lower. For those who do a lot of standing, that is a nice perk. Of course if you have tweens, remember to look for shoes in the adult department too. I have been able to pick up several nice pairs of shoes on clearance in the adult section because few adults wear the smaller sizes. The best deal I got was on a pair of Skechers Twinkle Toes for $12.99.
This also applies to boys shoes. So if you are a Ladies’ 8 you are a boys’ six. This is not good for boots, but boys sneakers have so really good deals.
