Homemade Spa & Beauty Treatments

Are you seeking some spa treatment, but your budget just won't allow it?  These easy yet luxurious treatments will allow you to pamper yourself for pennies!

 

HAIR TREATMENTS


For Dry Hair:

 

1 egg

1 tsp. honey

1 tsp. coconut oil

 

Combine egg, honey and oil. Massage into hair. Leave on 20 minutes, shampoo and rinse thoroughly.

 

For Oily Hair:


2 parts lemon juice
1 part water


Dip comb in mixture and comb through hair.

 

For Fly-Away Hair:


1 can beer, room temperature
 

Pour beer into a spray bottle. Spray on hair before blow drying or rinse in beer after shampooing.

 

For  Color Treated Hair:

2 oz. mayonnaise

1 Tbsp. cider vinegar
 

Combine mayo and vinegar.  Apply to hair.  Leave on for one hour. 

 


HERBAL SHAMPOO

 

4 Tbsp. fresh chopped herbs or 2 Tbsp. dried herbs

1/2 c. spring water

1 c. baby shampoo

 

Simmer the herbs in spring water for 15 minutes. Strain and cool. Add the baby shampoo. Place in bottle.


HOMEMADE BATH CRYSTALS

 

5 lb. Epsom salts

10 drops perfume

1 Tbsp. glycerin

food coloring

 

Combine all ingredients.  In a decorative jar, this makes a great gift.

BUBBLE BATH

 

1/2 c. gentle liquid dishwashing detergent

1 c. Epsom salts

4 or 5 drops glycerin

3 or 4 drops perfume

4 drops food coloring

 

Mix all ingredients and pour into bottle.  Add 1 to 2 tablespoons to bath water.

 

 

MOISTURIZING FACIAL MASK

 

1 medium sized banana, mashed

2 Tbsp. vegetable oil

 

Mix banana and oil in a bowl. Microwave on High 45 to 60 seconds, until warm. Apply to face and leave on 10 to 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water, followed by a cold water splash.

                     
             
MOISTURIZING FACIAL MASK


2 Tbsp. honey
2 Tbsp. milk            

                   

Mix honey and milk together; smooth on face.  Leave on for 15 minutes and
wash off.

ALMOND FACIAL MASKS:
(DRY SKIN)


1 C. almonds, ground
2 Tbsp. honey
1/2 tsp. olive oil

(OILY SKIN)
1 C. almonds, ground
1/4 C. Buttermilk

(COMBINATION SKIN)

1 C. almonds, ground
1 egg, whipped


Grind almonds in blender or food processor. Combine ingredients, and apply to clean skin.  Allow to dry, then rinse. The almonds act as a natural exfoliator.



A REFRESHING FACIAL


2 Tbsp. avocado, mashed
4 Tpsp. honey
1 egg
1 tsp. powdered milk
 

Combine ingredients, blending thoroughly.  Apply to skin and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse well with warm water.


BODY POWDER

16 oz. baking soda

16 oz. cornstarch

24 oz. baby powder

 

Mix ingredients together and sprinkle on body.



LUXURIOUS BODY MASSAGE LOTION

 

1 Tbsp. petroleum jelly

1 Tbsp. water

1 Tbsp. glycerin

1/2 tsp. almond extract

1/8 tsp. oil of wintergreen

 

Mix petroleum jelly, water and glycerin. Microwave on High for 30 seconds. Stir mixture until smooth. Add extract and the oil of wintergreen. Stir. While mixture is warm, rub on skin.

 


HAND LOTION

 

1 jar Unibas (purchase at pharmacy)

1 pt. glycerine

4 to 4 1/2 c. distilled water

3/4 oz. (2 Tbsp.) bath oil
fragrance (optional)
few drops food color (optional)

 

Mix and divide into 2 bowls. Beat with electric mixer until mixture is the consistency of whipped cream. Pour into bottles.  If you prefer scented lotion, add a few drops of your favorite perfume or oil.  Add food coloring for color if desired.

HOMEMADE SOAP:

 

2 bars high glycerin soap

1 oz. chopped fresh sage

8 drops olive oil

1 Tbsp. bran

 

Melt soap, sage, olive oil and bran in double boiler. Pour mixture into cupcake cups; let harden. Sage is a natural deodorant and astringent. Bran helps exfoliate dead or dry skin.

 

LIQUID HAND SOAP

 

1 bar soap with moisturizing cream
3 C. water

 

Shred bar of soap with grater or food processor. Place in large bowl.  Add water. Microwave on High for 5 to 6 minutes or until soap is dissolved, stirring every 2 minutes. Let stand until completely cool. Mixture thickens as it cools. Fill soap dispensers. Makes 3 cups or 24 ounces.


DECORATIVE SOAP BALLS

 

1 bar soap

3 Tbsp. water

1 to 3 drops food coloring

fragrance (optional)

 

Grate soap using grater or food processor. Mix water and food coloring; bring to a boil in saucepan. Add soap; lower heat and stir rapidly for 2 minutes until all shavings are colored. The mixture should be consistency of clay. Form balls. Spray molds with cooking oil spray.  Mold while warm. May be reheated if becomes difficult to work with. Note: 1 bar soap makes 3 to 4 shapes, depending on size.
