Work at Home Ideas: Cake Decorator

Are you a good cook who is creative in the kitchen?  Maybe you've already had some experience baking and decorating cakes for family and friends' birthdays.  Perhaps you could make some money while you're at it!

Getting Started:  $100-$500 for classes and basic supplies.  Check with your state's health department for any requirements.   Health department certification can involve quite a bit of remodeling.  Many states require a separate kitchen with an outside entrance, three sinks, dish sanitizers, a firewall, etc.

Training Needed: Many community education programs offer classes in cake decoration.  You may also find classes at your local vocational schools.

Marketing: Word of mouth is a great way to get started.  Let friends and family know of your new business venture, and offer to create cakes for their birthdays, graduations, showers, etc.  Your work will be your best advertising.  Leave a few business cards along with your cakes for guests who admire your work.
