Job Title:
Star Director, Independent Consultant for Southern Living at HOME

Job Description:
I sell beautiful home decor that can be found in the pages of Southern Living magazine, in the home party environment.  Women earn a "shopping spree" compliments of Southern Living JUST by inviting friends over to their home to share fun decorating and entertaining ideas and do some shopping!

How I Started My Business:
A girlfriend told me about this company, and I knew the Southern Living name and reputation and decided to give it a try.  The appeal of working from home, setting my own hours and ensuring that my family came first were what most attracted me to this business.

My Typical Work Schedule:
New consultants can invest as little as 1 night/day a week and have a consistent supplemental income (a few hundred dollars), but most who choose the career path will invest 6-8 nights a month which still leaves you with 24 nights at home with your family!  With this schedule, AND sharing this incredible opportunity with others which allows you an additional income, then you are on the path to success.

As a leader, I invest 15-20 hours a week and this includes 2 parties a week and communicating by phone and e-mail to my team and hostesses.  I am now earning the same salary that I was earning working a 40-50 hour a week job a few years ago!

What I Love About My Job:
Wow, it is really difficult to select ONE best thing about my job!  I would have to say the flexibility is the best!  When my husband had some unexpected vacation time, we decided to go to Disneyworld for a week and I did not have to ask a boss if I could go.  It was also pretty terrific that my income paid for the trip!  In addition to the flexibility and the income potential, I have earned 8 all-expenses paid trips with Southern Living at HOME to places like St. Thomas, Xcaret Mexico, The Bellagio in Las Vegas and much more....my husband and kids think that is pretty exciting too!

Challenges I Face:
The biggest challenge I have with my job is to NOT spend my profit on MORE home decor!  haha!  I  love the items we sell, and it is great to be able to discount decorate your home, so I have to make sure I put at least a majority of my profit toward family expenses!  I have been able to start and fund a college savings plan for both of my children since I began in this business though, so I am on the right track!

Tips and Advice:
The best tip I can offer Moms who are thinking of beginning ANY job is to make sure you are doing something you love!  If you enjoy decorating (well ironically I am not SO great at that!) or you are like me, and just love home decor and making your home comfortable for you and your family, then you will likely be successful.  Your love of your job will shine through and people will WANT to buy from you.  There is also a "success formula" in any business, so follow that and you will achieve your goals!
