Grandma’s Banana Bars: Another Frugal Use-it-Up Recipe

September 28, 2011 by Kimberly Danger 1 Comment

banana bar recipe

This recipe for banana bars comes from my grandmother.  In addition to my banana bread recipe, this is my other favorite way to use up brown bananas.   Everyone in my family loves it!  Plus, did you know you can freeze brown bananas, peels and all?  Just stick them in your freezer and pull them out when you’re ready to bake with them.

Banana Bar Recipe:
1 1/2 C. flour
1/2 C. butter, melted
1 C. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/3 C. milk
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/2 ripe bananas

Mix all ingredients together.  Beat three minutes.  Pour into a greased 9×13 cake pan.  Bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees.  Cool and frost with banana frosting below.

Banana Frosting Recipe:
2 Tbsp. butter, melted
2 C. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 ripe banana
