Name: Kelly
Age: 28
Home: Minnesota
Occupation: I work full-time in Human Resources
Family:
Husband Tony, 31
Mitchell, 5
Brooke, 18 months
Hobbies:
I love to read. Newspaper, Reader's Digest, books - whatever I can
get my hands on when the house is quiet!
What Funny Things Do Your Kids Do/Say:
I am able to drop Mitchell off at kindergarten in the morning and I
always tell him to "Have a good day!" with a kiss and a hug.
Now before I can say it, he tells me "I'll have a good day".
Brooke watches and copies everything Mitchell does. Mitchell was
acting up in a store and I told him to sit on a chair nearby and put his
hands on his knees and don't move. Brooke hopped up on the chair
next to him and sat with her hands on her knees too!
The Most Rewarding Thing About Parenting:
Snuggling with my kids and knowing that there is no one else that they
would rather be with at that moment.
The Most Challenging Thing About Parenting:
Feeling torn between wanting to work outside the home and hating that
I'm not with my kids during the day.
Favorites:
I hate to say it but the TV! It's been part of Mitchell's morning
and nighttime routine and is very calming for him to curl up on the
couch with a blanket and watch cartoons or nature shows. Brooke
doesn't watch TV - she has no interest at all.
Money Saving Tips:
I try to go to Walmart for all of my shopping twice a month and use our
local grocery store for things we need in between like Milk, bread, and
fresh fruit. I have found that it reduced our grocery bill by
about 1/3 just by eliminating the majority of the impulse purchases
bought at frequent Walmart or grocery store trips.
Best Bargain Ever:
I bought a beautiful coat at a department store for $19.99. It was
on a sale rack but I couldn't find a price tag on it. The lady at
the register couldn't find a price either so she named $19.99 as the
price. When I got home, I put it on and felt something weird in
the armpit. It was the price tag for $99.99.
In the Kitchen:
I make up large batches of cookie dough and then freeze it in 1 dozen
amounts in freezer bags. Whenever I want fresh baked cookies, I
just take a bag out of the freezer and put it in the fridge. The
next day the dough is defrosted and I can bake a dozen cookies quickly
and easily.
Organization:
Each child has a large plastic tub in their room for toys. When
the toys don't all fit in the tub, it's time to clean out some old toys.
By limiting the amount of space the toys can take up, it keeps them from
spreading to other areas of our house!
